The mutant era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t just arriving—it’s positioning itself as the foundational pillar for the next generation of Marvel Studios storytelling.

Speaking at D23’s Disney Worldbuilders panel, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige addressed the long-term vision for the MCU’s standalone X-Men reboot under director Jake Schreier. Pointing to comic book history andthe freshly announced young ensemble—anchored by Sadie Sink as Jean Grey and Kit Connor as Cyclops—Feige made it clearthat Marvel is laying the groundwork for a multi-decade mutant saga.

    “Sagas Upon Sagas Yet Untold”

Addressing the crowd’s reaction to the newly revealed cast, Feige emphasized that casting younger actors allows the studio to adapt iconic, sprawling comic book storylines that the previous 20th Century Fox franchise never touched.

“Having 85, almost 90 years of comic book history, there’s so many stories yet to tell. We announced a very young, new cast for a property called X-Men the other day,” Feige noted to enthusiastic applause. “And that’s great, because there’s been 10 great X-Men movies [but] there can be 100 more. There’s sagas, upon sagas, with these comics that haven’t been told yet. And that’s great because the stories that inspired me to want to make these kinds of movies haven’t been told yet. I’m quite excited about doing them.”

    Building a 10-to-20-Year Mutant Foundation

Feige’s comments align with Marvel Studios’ broader post-Avengers: Secret Warsreset strategy. By leaning into a “youth-focused” cast that reflects the early School for Gifted Youngsters era from the comics, Marvel Studios is ensuring that stars like Sink and Connor can grow into their roles over a 10-to-15-year window.

Rather than jumping straight to veteran, battle-worn iterations of Scott Summers and Jean Grey, Schreier’s reboot will build character dynamics from the ground up, providing a long narrative runway for classic comic arcs like The Dark Phoenix Saga, Mutant Massacre, and E Is for Extinction.
