Just six weeks after launching Night School Studio’s Unhinged, Netflix has announced that they will be closing the Los Angeles-based developer, which it acquired in 2021. Netflix is also planning to close Helsinki-based Moonloot, which was founded in 2022, and hadn’t even released any titles.
Per GameFile, a Netflix representative stated that the studio closures are the streaming platform’s move to prioritising kids gaming, party games, story-driven fare and games that appeal to more mainstream audiences. “We see an opportunity to be more focused in our execution, so we are making organizational changes to the business to match those priorities,” stated the rep.
Netflix is apparently also shedding jobs from its internal games team, though their representative declined to state how many jobs would be affected. “We are incredibly grateful to the talented colleagues we’re saying goodbye to today. We thank them for all their contributions to Netflix, and wish them the best.”
Unhinged, a first-person narrative-driven horror game created in collaboration with Weapons director Zach Cregger, was released on the streaming platform on June 30. Starring like Sadie Sink and Zoë Kravitz. Aaron felt that the 30-minute playtime was both a help and a hindrance for the title, but left room for Night School to build upon what was a serviceable game.
Prior to being acquired by Netflix, Night School had also released their award-winning supernatural title Oxenfree to PCfree II: Lost Signals, which launched on Steam, <a href="https://comicvibe.com/playstation-5-version-of-popular-ps2-game-remake-out-for-free-today/” title=”PlayStation 5 Version of Popular PS2 Game Remake Out for Free Today”>PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch in 2023
