When it comes to Netflix itself, there are so many shows to pick from; it’s wild. In fact, August itself has so many new movies and TV series that have been released that it’s hard to pick just one, especially when there are plenty of international series that are just as good.
But if you’re looking for a new series to watch that isn’tjust a returning show or a series that was recently renewed, this is the article for you. These four new original shows on Netflix, whether a docu-series or a new adaptation, are some of the best you’ll be able to experience.
My Brilliant Career
First up on this list is the Australian adaptation of My Brilliant Career.Starring Philippa Northeast, this series follows Sybylla, a young woman who dreams of becoming a writer and is willing to give up anything to achieve success. But as her career begins to flourish, everything is turned upside down when she unexpectedly develops a relationship.
The series spans six episodes and is created and I feel like Netflix itself is pretty much known for its period shows. They really know how to do a Regency well, and some of their most popular projects so far, such as the upcomingBridgerton season 5 and the severalEnola Holmes movies, have shown that
My Brilliant Careeris the perfect example of something that works well for the platform. And if you love the story of a young woman trying to follow her dreams while also dealing with love, this is the one for you.
Our Sticky Love
I’ve talked about some greatSouth Korean TV shows on Netflix, so of course I have to give some props to Our Sticky Love. This new romantic comedy spans 12 episodes and is kind of low-key hilarious. The premise follows a prosecutor with amnesia who hunts down a crime syndicate. The man she meets? He just so happens to be a former youth boxing champion-turned-gang member working for that same syndicate.
But he wants to protect her from those trying to hurt her, knowing she was once his first love. He claims her to be his girlfriend and moves her in together, even though she doesn’t remember a lickof their time together.
Yes, this series has about as many twists and turns as a maze, but honestly, that’s what makes it so much fun. It’s that type of fun rom-com nature that makes you laugh at the ridiculousness but is still so fun.
The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare
While only three episodes, The Idaho Murders: College Nightmareis a chilling docuseries about the murders of four University of Idaho students and shows how this crime scene came together from interviews with students and family, texts, and bodycam footage.
As a girl who lovesthebest true crime documentaries on Netflix, because I really do think they do a ridiculously good job, this series is right up my alley. Is it the absolute best true-crime docuseries ever made? No, but it does offer a lot of insight into what happened those nights and is filled to the brim with the kind of information you can’t really get anywhere else.
The docuseries has been in the top ten since its release back in July and has only continued to be a topic of conversation.
Mourinho
Last but not least, I must give some props to Mourinho, another new docuseries that is for all of my sports fans out there. This docuseries follows the life of the legendary soccer manager and former player, Jose Mourinho, who coached Real Madrid. The series itself was filmed over more than two years and includes interviews with several of the team’s best players that show just how serious Mourinho is about the game of soccer
This man, specifically, is a hugeinfluence on soccer worldwide, and now that the Spanish national team has finally brought home the World Cup for the first time in years, this is the perfect opportunity to watch it. While I do think some things in here leave a little to be desired—as it feels like Mourinho didn’t open up nearly as much as he could have—there are a lot of great interviews, great clips, and so much action for those who are missing the game.
Honestly, you’re pretty stacked for our Saturday night binge fest, and all four of these options are going to keep you entertained from the moment you press play. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll end up loving Our Sticky Loveand begging for a season 2. I love a good amnesia plot.
