Earlier this year, audiences learned that Netflix hit The Lincoln Lawyer would be ending after five seasons despite strong viewership from the series.
Series developer Ted Humphrey and co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez addressed the decision in a statement, promising fans “the satisfying finale Mickey Haller deserves.”
“All good things must come to an end, but thankfully sometimes how they come to an end is up to us. From the very beginning, the mission was always not only to tell the story of Mickey Haller and his compatriots, but also to give that story a proper conclusion,” the said in a statement.
Fans of the show, though, received some welcomed news.
‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Spin-Off in the Works
Deadline revealed that a spin-off of The Lincoln Lawyer headlined by Cobie Smulders, reprising her role as Mickey Haller’s half-sister Artemisia “Emi” Finch, is already in the works, with the script being written by executive producers Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez and Matthew J. Lieberman, with A+E Studios producing.
“Chatter about an Emi spinoff started percolating even before Netflix announced in May that Season 5 of The Lincoln Lawyer will be its last. Humphrey, Rodriguez and Lieberman spent some time honing in the concept and recently pitched it to Netflix, I hear,” Deadline insider Nellie Andreeva wrote. “According tot in the room and commissioning a script for a quick turnaround.”
Deadline revealed that a representative for Netflix declined to comment on the decision.
The Lincoln Lawyer has been a big hit for Netflix, with the series appearing on the streaming giant’s Global Top 10 charts for 29 weeks to date and has garnered 171 million views since 2023.
The fourth season (nine million views) actually out-paced the third season (seven million) in its opening weekend.
