Recently, a Freedom to Read Act was signed, an author-illustrator launched their debut middle grade <a href="https://comicvibe.com/graphic-novel-review-albion-ranks-as-an-odd-excellent-piece-of-comics-history/” title=”Graphic Novel Review: ALBION ranks as an odd, excellent piece of comics history”>graphic novel, an author met the subject of her award-winning picture book, and a pup was the star of the show at a book launch.
On August 10, governor Maura Healey signed the Massachusetts Freedom to Read Bill at the Franklin Public Library in Franklin, Mass. Under the act, a book can’t be banned or removed from libraries and schools without a public notice and a review hearing in front of a committee. The bill also serves as a protection for school employees and public librarians from professional, civil, or criminal penalties for their selection of library materials. Here, (from l.), authors Jarrett J. Krosoczka, Federico Erebia, and Michelle Cusolito made an appearance at the signing to show their support.

On August 2, Barnes & Noble in Manhattan’s Union Square welcomed author Jonathan Graziano (r.) and his internet sensation pug Milton to share Graziano’s new picture book, Milton Makes a Move,illustrated by Dan Tavis (S&S/McElderry). The duo were joined onstage by fellow influencer Isabel Klee, followed by a book signing in which readers were able to receive a special paw-tograph stamp from Milton.
