Disney pulled the plug on Marvel’s Wonder Man Season 2 over ratings, per report
The Wonder Man Disney+ show did not bring in the viewership numbers that Disney would have hoped for, according to a new report

Wonder Man fans have been through it this year. When the show kicked off triumphantly in late January and was praised by both fans and critics alike, and then was renewed for a second season in March, it seemed like things were on the up and up for more auteur-driven projects within the MCU. However, when it was announced that the show had been canceled last month, fans were left wondering what led to this reversal.
Now, according to a new report by Lesley Goldberg from The Ankler, it turns out that Wonder Man Season 2 was canceled because viewership numbers on the show were simply not as high as Disney would have liked them to be.
“Disney recently pulled the plug on Marvel’s Wonder Man four months after renewing the comedy starring Ben Kingsley and the Emmy-nominated Yahya Abdul Mateen II,” Goldberg wrote. “MultipleWonder Man justified the costs associated with doing the show and pulled the plug before a season two writers room even opened.”
It’s frustrating to see Wonder Man, a small-scale MCU project that was shot locally in Los Angeles, get shafted. That said, Wonder Man co-creator Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spider-Man movie has a distinct artistic voice, so perhaps the success of the film will lead to more opportunities for Cretton with Marvel Studios. If Spider-Man: Brand New Day can beat Spider-Man: No Way Home’s box office performance, then it could solidify Cretton as one of the most lucrative directors right now in Hollywood. Give him all the money, Disney!
And, no, all of this isn’t a long game bait and switch into a Wonder Man movie announcement; the series’ showrunner has already ruled that one out.
Wonder Man Season 1 – and the only season, as things currently stand – is available on Disney+.
