Taron Egerton‘s childhood led to “a specific relationship” with his masculinity — and it still presents in his love life.
The Rocketmanstar explained during the Aug. 10 episode of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast that he was raised by a single mom, making him the “man of the house” who is “trying to take care of” everyone in his life.

At age 12, Egerton moved to a new school where he was “marked” by two classmates as “the little feminine masculine artsy boy that I was.” Egerton masked his insecurities at the new school with a “cocky and confident” air about him.
“Now, I think, when I’m asked about tropey masculine things, I kind of go, ‘Oh s—,’ I’m going to be found out,” Egerton admitted during Monday’s episode. “I sort of, slightly, fell into being a bit introvert for a couple of years there whereas I’m naturally somebody who’s quite expressive and outward-looking I think.”
Egerton explained that this insecurity impacts him in some facets of his life.
“I still feel that now, you know, particularly I feel it in my romantic relationships and things,” the Apexstar continued. “It can be hard to — oh, we’re getting real deep here.”
Egerton’s comment about his love life comes after sparking romance rumors with model Brooks Nader. (He has previously been linked to assistant director Emily Thomas and actress Chloe Bennet.)
The pair sparked romance rumors in March when they were spotted on multiple dates around Los Angeles. The following month, Nader and Egerton were spotted cozying up on a beach in Australia, where the actor was filming his upcoming movie Kockroach. Photos surfaced of the two holding ands and sharing a kiss during the outing.
It appeared that things between them had fizzled out shortly thereafter, however. In June, Nader was asked about her romance with Egerton and the Love Thy Naderstar said “nothing” happened between her and the Black Birdstar.
“I’m just single, having fun. Always,” Nader told TMZ during an interview on June 24. “I’m just going on fun dates. But not with anyone right now.”
When discussing his love life in a 2022 interview on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy, Egerton revealed the first thing that catches his eye when it comes to a potential romantic partner.
“Hopefully, [someone] quite attractive and funny,” Egerton said, joking that he’s “more of an ass man” overall but physical attributes aren’t “prerequisites” for dating him.
