This weekend, the Kazakh capital hosted the large-scale geek culture festival Comic Con Astana 2026. This year, the event took place across two venues, with cosplay once again becoming one of its highlights. Visitors came dressed as their favorite characters from anime, films, TV series and video games. The festival also welcomed a number of star guests, including Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, known to audiences for his role in Game of Thrones. In an exclusive interview with Silk Way TV channel, the actor and producer spoke about trying Kazakhstan’s traditional beverage kymyz, admiring panoramic views of Astana from the top of the Baiterek monument, and his desire to return to Kazakhstan. The conversation also touched on artificial intelligence. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau spoke about the upcoming Astana AI Film Festival. In his view, the festival will be part of a new direction in filmmaking.
«AI, we keep being told that it’s going to change everything. It’s difficult to imagine. There’s no question that it’s an incredible tool in filmmaking. I know that in Kazakhstan, in Astana, you’re going to have a film festival for just AI movies, which is fine. I think that AI movie is going to be its own thing, like another part of filmmaking. And I think for normal filmmaking and television, it’s going to be a tool that can be added, like all the other tools that you have,»Nikolaj Coster-Waldau shared.
