Japan now has insurance for fans in case a celebrity cancels their con appearance, concert, or public event
It can’t save you from the emotional pain of having a celebrity cancel an appearance, but at least Japan has a plan to protect you from the financial pain.

One of the most exciting things about any comic-con is finding out that your favorite star will be there. However, it can also be incredibly disappointing to discover that they’ve had to pull out of an appearance at the last minute due to illness or other work commitments. While they can’tprotect you from missing out on meeting your heroes, a Japanese company does have a plan to help protect fans from the financial loss that can come from these situations with a new celebrity cancellation insurance policy.
The Japanese Credit Bureau (JCB) announced last month that they would be partnering with insurance company Mysurance to provide what they’re calling “oshikatsu cancellation insurance.” The term “oshikatsu” refers to activities undertaken to support their “oshi,” which is loosely defined as someone’s favorite celebrity. The intent of this new policy is to protect fans from having to cancel travel plans at the last minute when their favorite idol, voice actor, or other celebrity can’t make a performance or appearance.
“We will fully compensate you for the cancellation fees of accommodations, flights, etc., if you cancel your trip,” explains the Mysurance website. “Unfortunately, the emotional impact of not being able to see your oshi cannot be alle
This is actually a really good idea in our opinion. Travel is expensive and discovering that your favorite performer can’t make an appearance or had to cancel a concert at the last minute is tough enough; losing potentially hundreds of dollars in cancellation fees can make it even worse.
