It’s hard to fathom that the beloved PlayStation 2 is more than a quarter of a century old, having originally launched in 2000.
To this day, gamers yearn to re-experience their favourite titles of yesteryear and that’s now once again possible as a PlayStation 2 title has made a comeback.
Originally released in 2005, My Merry May With Be is back with a remaster which is now available to enjoy on PC, albeit with a catch – as spotted by ComicBook.
Developed by KID Corp and CyberFront Corporation, My Merry May With Be is a sci-fi visual novel that unfortunately lacks localisation.
You see, My Merry May With Be is a Japanese game and while it’s readily available worldwide, there’s never been an option to switch the language.
In certain games, that may be a barrier you could overcome but in a visual novel, it’s going to make your life pretty tricky if you don’t know a word of Japanese.
Even still, there will be plenty of gamers thrilled to see this remaster arrive on PC after it recently landed on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
My Merry May With Me is actually a compilation of several titles: My Merry Mayand My Merry Maybe with the former landing on the PlayStation 2 and SEGA Dreamcast and the latter on PSP.
The story surrounds high school student Kyosuke Watarase who is sent an artificial human companion.
The only problem is that the companion doesn’t activate properly, instead taking on the role of Reu, a teenage boy with the mind of a child.
Kyosuke must help guide Reu through life, hiding the companion in her dorm as she figures out precisely what to do.
As a visual novel, there are, of course, multiple dialogue options and endings with the story featuring an array of romance options too.
It’s a really charming play so hopefully localisation options do surface.
It could happen if the remaster results in visible demand for that option; there’s no better time now that this 21-year-old hit is once again being supported by developers.
If you do fancy picking up the title, it’s available on Steam at a price of $40 / £35.75 although there’s a 20% off introductory offer running until August 16. Pricing will vary by territory.
Another PlayStation 2 classic will arrive on PlayStation Plus this month
Hopefully, we’ll continue to see PlayStation bring more classic titles back, adding them to its PlayStation Plus catalogue.
The premium tier’s not cheap which isn’t ideal considering PlayStation is only adding around one retro game per month.
There are so many titles players would love to see come back like The Simpsons: Hit & Run or classic Silent Hill entries.
As a reminder, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams is set to make its way onto PlayStation Plus’ premium tier this month, although a precise <a href="https://comicvibe.com/monster-the-lizzie-borden-story-gets-september-release-date-plus-see-first-photos/" title="Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story Gets September Release Date — Plus, See First Photos”>release date is not yet available.
The 2006 title also originally dates from the PlayStation 2 era.
