ASUS has built a reputation for combining high-end gaming performance with a surprisingly slim, portable design in its ROG Zephyrus range, and the 2026 series continues that trend. I’ve been checking out the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2026) GU606AW Laptop, one of four configurations available in the lineup, sitting right in the middle range.

Despite housing some seriously powerful hardware, the laptop measures less than 18mm thick and weighs just 1.95kg, making it easy to pop in a bag and carry it between home, work, or gaming events.

They’ve also moved away from the usual aggressive gamer aesthetics, instead opting for a clean aluminium chassis that looks just as comfortable in a meeting room as it does in a gaming setup. The only thing that really stands out from the norm is Slash Lighting on the lid, adding a subtle touch of personality without overwhelming the otherwise understated design.

Beneath the stylish exterior sits hardware that’s more than capable of handling demanding workloads, with ASUS pairing Intel’s Core Ultra 9 386H processor with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU and 32GB of high-speed LPDDR5X memory to create a system that feels equally comfortable gaming as it does tackling professional creative workloads.

The sixteen-core processor also includes an integrated NPU capable of delivering up to 50 TOPS of AI performance, making it well-suited to AI-assisted applications alongside heavy multitasking.

Storage is equally capable, with a fast 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD ensuring games and applications load quickly while Windows remains responsive throughout everyday use. With two M.2 PCIe slots in total, users also have the option of adding a second SSD later without replacing the factory-installed drive.

The 16-inch ROG Nebula HDR OLED display delivers a crisp 2560 x 1600 resolution with a fast 240Hz refresh rate, offering a nice balance between visual quality and gaming performance. OLED technology also delivers exceptional contrast and true blacks, while 100% DCI-P3 colour coverage and Pantone Validation make the display equally appealing for photographers, video editors, and digital artists.

Whether you’re tackling demanding creative workloads or settling in for a gaming session, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2026) consistently impresses. Modern AAA titles feel exceptionally smooth thanks to the 240Hz refresh rate and NVIDIA G-SYNC, while the OLED panel’s rich colours and outstanding contrast give cinematic games and high-quality media a real sense of depth.

Combined with the Core Ultra 9 processor and RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, the system rarely feels short of performance, whether you’re editing high-resolution video, rendering complex 3D scenes, experimenting with AI-assisted workflows, or simply enjoying the latest games.

ASUS rounds everything out with a MUX Switch and NVIDIA Advanced Optimus, intelligently balancing gaming performance and battery efficiency depending on how you’re using the laptop.

Thermals are often a concern with thinner gaming laptops, but the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2026) handles itself impressively well. Even during extended gaming sessions or heavier creative workloads, the system remains composed, allowing the Core Ultra 9 processor and RTX 5080 Laptop GPU to sustain the level of performance you’d expect from hardware in this class.

ASUS has also put a lot of thought into connectivity, and alongside two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, they’ve included USB-C, Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1, a UHS-II SD card reader, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

It gives users plenty of flexibility, whether they’re connecting external displays, storage devices, cameras, or gaming peripherals, with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 rounding out the package, providing fast and reliable wireless connectivity.

Sound is delivered through a six-speaker system, featuring dual-force woofers, Smart Amplifier technology, and Dolby Atmos, delivering rich, detailed sound that performs surprisingly well for a laptop this thin.

Combined with the 1080p IR webcam, AI noise-cancelling microphones, and Windows Hello support, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2026) feels just as capable during meetings, streaming sessions, or content creation as it does while gaming.

Ultimately, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2026) GU606AW-TB009W successfully delivers on its promise of combining flagship performance with genuine portability. The RTX 5080 configuration offers more than enough power for modern games and demanding creative workloads, while the premium OLED display, thoughtful connectivity, and refined build quality help elevate the overall experience.

Whether you’re a gamer looking for a powerful machine that’s easy to travel with or a content creator wanting desktop-class performance in a compact form factor, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2026) GU606AW Laptop proves you don’t need to compromise one for the other. It successfully blends premium build quality, exceptional performance, and one of the best laptop displays currently available into a package that’s as practical as it is powerful.
