BENGALURU: Communications professionals rarely get to pick their battles based on conviction alone, but Rahul Nag has made a habit of it. After four years building Pocket FM’s global brand and corporate communications function, and stints steering ShareChat and Mindtree through some of India’s most scrutinised corporate moments, Nag has joined Eloelo Group as head of brand communications, a move he frames not as a job change but as the start of something he calls the Elotainment era.

The bet is on where entertainment is heading rather than where it has been. Nag is explicit that he believes the next chapter of entertainment will be shaped by ai, new formats and shifting consumer behaviour, and Eloelo Group’s portfolio, anchored by the StoryTV App’s push into premium vertical storytelling, is designed to sit squarely at that intersection. For someone who spent the last two decades helping companies turn products into categories and categories into movements, it is a logical next canvas.

What appears to have sealed the decision, though, is the leadership behind the vision rather than the vision alone. Nag singles out Saurabh Pandey for building with patience and conviction rather than chasing trends, describing him as remarkably grounded and inclined to treat the business like a long game of chess rather than a sprint. That temperament, Nag suggests, runs through the wider organisation too, where ownership, humility and curiosity define the culture and ideas are said to matter more than hierarchy.

Nag’s own track record gives that endorsement some weight. At Pocket FM he built and scaled brand and corporate communications across India and the United States, positioned audio series as a distinct entertainment category in its own right, and led reputation strategy through a period of intense competitive pressure. At ShareChat he steered corporate communications through a hyper-growth phase marked by regulatory scrutiny, advising leadership on geopolitical sensitivity and building crisis architecture during a period of workforce restructuring. Earlier still, at Mindtree, he helped stabilise stakeholder narrative across 18 business units during the L&T-Mindtree hostile takeover, one of India’s largest M&A events, a baptism in high-stakes corporate communications few in the industry can match.

That range, spanning consumer internet scale-ups, social media regulation and boardroom battles, is precisely what Eloelo Group appears to be betting on as it builds out a broader entertainment portfolio. Nag himself seems energised rather than cautious about the shift, noting he is 45 days into the role and already inviting creators, brands, agencies, media and partners to reach out on brand collaborations, strategic partnerships, sponsorships and industry events.

For Eloelo Group, hiring a communications leader who has already shaped narrative through hyper-growth, regulatory heat and hostile takeovers is a strong signal of ambition. For Nag, it is a chance to apply two decades of belief-building to an entertainment bet still being written, on his own telling, more like chess than a T20 match.
