Microsoft expands its PC gaming footprint with a new cross-licensing promotion with Ubisoft.
Xbox today announced the next step in its so-called console-to-PC program, offering free access to specific Ubisoft games. Users who own a copy of select Ubisoft games on Xbox consoles will be able to download and play the same game on PC. The access point is the publisher’s Ubisoft Connect app, not the Xbox app, but the cross-licensing origin point is the Xbox console ecosystem.
Titles include a medley of modern games including AC Mirage and Valhalla, Far Cry 6, The Crew 2, and two Rainbow Six games. The licenses for DLC also transfer over, except for consumables, and cross-progression features will carry over to the PC version. Xbox says that there’s no reverse freebie–if you own the PC version on Ubisoft Connect, you won’t magically unlock an Xbox version.
