Legendary Tales is a dark fantasy RPG with physics-based combat that was just released on Quest.
Nearly two years after its initial release on PC VR and PlayStation VR2, Legendary Tales is now available on MetaQuest 3 and 3S. We found it to have “satisfying” physics-based combat throughout extensive dungeon exploration, promising over 15 hours of content. Fully playable in solo or online co-op mode, you can experience a quest-driven story from start to finish with friends. Although no specific porting features were mentioned, developer Urban Wolf Games said the Quest version includes “cutting-edge system updates not yet released for PCVR and PSVR2.”
Similar to the Dark Souls experience in VR, Legendary Tales’ core gameplay mechanic is exploring loot-filled dungeons with skeletons, orcs, and tough boss fights. The focus is on a hands-on crafting system, allowing players to gather materials to craft weapons or dabble in alchemy to use a variety of potions to aid in combat. Physics-based combat focuses on precise parries to retaliate against enemy attacks and hopefully leave every encounter unscathed. Finally, its detailed skill tree offers a range of specializations as a Rogue, Mage, Warrior, or a personalized hybrid build.
In a heartwarming Reddit post this week on the eve of the game’s release, the developer acknowledged that the timing was bad, but also talked about his personal experience developing for virtual reality and its challenges. A DLC expansion named “Dawn of History” containing new items, maps, and enemies is expected later this year.
Legendary Tales is released for Metaquest, PS VR2, and Steam.
