Bridgerton Season 4 comes at the perfect time to distract us all from…well, everything.
When it comes to good old fashioned escapism, some people can do worse than Bridgerton. Netflix’s hit series offers an alternate version of history where racism doesn’t exist and we get to spend all our time watching very sexy people doing very sexy things. In fact, that’s how the characters feel as well, and the actor who played Queen Charlotte in Season 4 of Bridgerton admits that all of this is a bit of a distraction for the monarch.
In an interview with Digital Spy, Golda Rocheuvel revealed that much of what Queen Charlotte does in Bridgerton season 4 is aimed at distracting her from the chaos in her life. “She comes into Whistledown thinking that she has a cool new toy, that she’s going to be the best mate, that she’s going to be able to control the gossip. Then when Danbury tells her to leave, she’s convinced.”
Lady Danbury’s impending departure occurred at the end of season 3 and clearly had a major impact on Queen Charlotte in Bridgerton season 4. “I think there’s a desperation in her to entertain herself[in the matchmaking]. There’s a desperation to not want to be involved in real life, because in real life her best friend will be gone. In real life, her husband isn’t very well. So I think she’s immersed in other things to separate herself from real life.”
To be fair, we understand Queen Charlotte’s instinct to distract herself when things don’t seem to be going well. After all, can you say that real life is a little unstable for many fans at the moment? So perhaps Bridgerton season 4 will be just the distraction we all need.
