Eva Mendes is beyond proud of her longtime love, Ryan Gosling, entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In celebration of Gosling’s casting as Ghost Rider, Mendes posted throwback footage from their 2012 movie, The Place Beyond the Pines, on which they met in 2011. The movie featured Gosling as Luke, a motorcycle stuntman in a traveling carnival who soon gets involved in a life of crime alongside his ex-lover, Romina (Mendes). The Derek Cianfrance film also co-starred Bradley Cooper, Dane DeHaan, and Emory Cohen.
Alongside a video of Gosling in the opening scene of The Place Beyond the Pines, Mendes wrote on Instagram Sunday, “From this intro only I thought Ryan Gosling can be a perfect casting for Ghost Rider role.”
She added in her caption, “Love, Roxy,” a playful nod to her past role as Roxanne Simpson in the Nicholas Cage-led Ghost Riderin 2007.
Mendes, 52, added more screen footage from The Place Beyond the Pines on her Instagram Stories, sharing a social media post that featured her and Gosling’s characters together. She wrote, “Ghost Rider in a parallel universe. Gracias @cinema.encyclopedia for this beautiful parallel universe connection.”
In their original caption, Cinema Encyclopedia wrote, “The connection between Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes regarding Ghost Rider is a perfect Hollywood full-circle moment: Ryan Gosling has officially been cast as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s new Ghost Rider, nineteen years after his longtime partner and wife, Eva Mendes, starred as the female lead in the original 2007 Ghost Riderfilm.”
Mendes began dating Gosling afterThe Place Beyond the Pines,and the couple now share two daughters, Esmeralda Amada, 11, and Amada Lee, 9.
Gosling, 45, was announced as the star of Marvel’s upcomingGhost Rider film at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. Shawn Levy is directing the standalone movie, which will hit theaters in 2028.
Levy helmed the 2024 Marvel filmDeadpool and Wolverine and recently worked alongside Gosling on the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter, out May 28, 2027.
Amid a blackout in the Hall H panel room, Gosling suddenly appeared on stage during the Marvel segment to celebrate his casting news. “As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a long time,” he said.
The Gosling-Ghost Rider saga has been a thing since 2022, when Happy Sad Confused host Josh Horowitz previously told Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige that the Barbie star told him he wanted to play the supernatural stunt motorcyclist at Comic-Con in 2022.
“Ryan’s amazing. I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU,” Feige responded.

Earlier this year, Gosling confirmed that there was some momentum regarding his casting in the MCU.
“We’ll keep hope alive,” he told Horowitz. “Some discussions have been had. It’s a complicated situation.”
Feige confirmed at Comic-Conthat it wasn’t until Gosling was working with Levy on Star Wars: StarFighter that he finally decided to pitch an idea for a Marvel movie.
“And then they came to us with this great idea,” Feige told press. “When a great, great, great, great actor and superstar and a great director who you were already trying to find another movie with after we made Deadpool and Wolverine come and go, ‘We want this to be our next movie.’ We go, ‘That’s awesome. Let’s do it. And let’s go to Hall H.'”
Ghost Rider is set for 2028.
