Patreon is finally experimenting with native live streaming. This is a new feature that could help you attract more creators and earn more money. The feature is rolling out to some testers this week and is expected to be more widely available this summer.
Similar to other platforms, Patreon’s new livestream feature comes with live chat where fans can comment and interact using emoji reactions, and the ability to schedule livestreams in advance. Creators can also assign moderators to chats.
Patreon creators have traditionally relied on third-party tools like Crowdcast, YouTube, OBS (Open Broadcaster Software), and Vimeo to host live streams. Suggestion for Patreon creators: Native live streaming allows you to avoid the crowded feed of intrusive ads found on other platforms.
Now you can live stream directly within the Patreon mobile app or on the web.
Notably, there is no limit to how long creators can stream. That means you can stream 24/7 if you want. However, depending on your plan, there are limits to the number of videos you can upload.
This may be a more appealing option than TikTok Live, which has a 60-minute limit. Twitch enforces a 48-hour limit on continuous streaming. Although YouTube allows unlimited streaming, users are limited to approximately 10 individual streams each day.

Live video also presents new monetization opportunities. Creators can choose to stream only to paid members to maximize revenue or offer free live streams to attract a wider audience. Additionally, creators can share recordings of their live streams with fans. This also includes the option to place the video behind a paywall as a one-time purchase.

However, one limitation is the lack of native co-hosting functionality. Authors must use OBS or Streamlabs integration for this purpose.
Patreon didn’t reveal specific plans for live video, but did hint that it’s exploring new opportunities for creators to earn money while live streaming. A company spokesperson gave us some direction for the membership gift feature, so we’re guessing this could be added to livestreams in the future.
