Although many counted out the House that Mario built in 2026, one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises is making an unprecedented return this year. While Sony gears up for the release of Marvel’s Wolverine, Microsoft has Gears of War: E-Day, and everyone is ready to be consumed by the Goliath that is GTA VI, Nintendo is once again quite happy to do its own thing in the corner.

Some gamers were initially disappointed in a lack of news relating to Zelda, especially as 2026 marks 40 years since The Legend of Zelda was released on the Famicom Disk System in Japan.

Thankfully, the Nintendo gods smiled upon us, with the long-rumoured reveal that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is getting a modern remake.

If that wasn’t enough to have us throwing our money at the gaming giant, we could have a brand-new Zelda-themed Switch 2 to play it on.

Over on X, leaks from Shpeshal_Nick and Necrolipe claim that a Zelda-themed Switch 2 is on the way to celebrate the 40th anniversary. The rumour mill initially went into overdrive that we’d be getting a themed controller, and it’ll be dubbed the “<a href="https://comicvibe.com/nintendo-switch-users-warned-as-official-advice-could-actually-result-in-loss-of-game/" title="Nintendo Switch users warned as official advice could actually result in loss of game”>Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller – The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition.”

Shpeshal_Nick builds off the leak, suggesting that we’ll also be getting a console variant to fit with Nintendo’s long history of Zelda-themed editions.

Importantly, just because this could launch around the same time as the Ocarina remake doesn’t mean it’ll be Ocarina-themed. Bad luck for those who wanted Saria of the Great Deku Tree emblazoned on the back of their console.

There’s nothing more to go on in terms of pricing, but with the Switch 2 getting a price hike to $499.99 in the USA in September, expect a Zelda edition to go for more than this.

We’ve previously splashed out on everything from an Ocarina-inspired Game & Watch to a Majora’s Mask3DS XL, Wind Waker Wii U to a Tears of the KingdomOLED, but we’d like to see something a little different this time around.

As it’s Zelda’s 40th anniversary, Nintendo would be wise to push the boat out and give fans something more than a standard Switch 2 with a gold Hylian crest stamped on the back.

We’ll have to wait and see.

What do we know about the Ocarina of Time remake?

Despite its relative infancy and some refusing to let go of their OG Switch, more and more of us are being tempted over to its little brother thanks to a growing roster of Switch 2 exclusives.

Anyone wanting to play Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Pokémon Pokopia will have to stump up for a Switch 2, with the Ocarina remake being much the same.

Aside from a cinematic trailer showing off a very different art style to the N64 classic, it’s all rumours and hearsay when it comes to the Ocarinaremake.

Players have various wishlists about what they want to see, but away froman overhaul of Navi, they’re begging for restoration of cut content like the Light Temple and horseback combat, and an expansion of areas like Hyrule Field and Castle Town. So, not much then.

Even though aleaked Ocarina of Timeprice tag raised a few eyebrows that this won’t be the massive revamp it’s being pitched as, there are high hopes that we could be pleasantly surprised by what Nintendo has to offer.

It’s been 15 years since The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D released on the 3DS, and with the original game still being held as one of the best games of all time, it’s still sure to make bank.

With rumours of Zelda-themed consoles and Zelda-centric Nintendo Direct showcases heating up, it hopefully won’t be too long until these ravenous fans know more.
