Still nursing your Odyssey-in-Imax hangover or still trying to see it? Our sympathies, but the new movies and TV aren’t slowing down, especially if you prefer to stream at home. This week, an over-the-hill Kevin Hart, (pickleball) court battles, and Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie(and its related series), among others, demand your attention. Even the Nicolas Winding Refn sickos get a new movie. Remember to drink water.

Nicolas Winding Refn movies are an acquired taste — heavy on ambitious premises, effulgent visuals, and sometimes meandering plots. His new sci-fi thriller, Her Private Hell, promises similar vibes, as a serial killer stalks through a futuristic city shrouded in fog. Reviews are mixed, and filming it sounded awful, but Refn’s described the project as “something groovy.”

Kevin Hart’s latest comedy, 72 Hours, is 105 minutes of Hart playing the old — as in 40-year-old — fish out of water at a bachelor-party weekend of random 20-something bros who accidentally add him to the group chat. For the record, in real life, Kevin Hart is 47. But age is just a number.

Is there a goofier archetype than the too-intense tennis star? If so, maybe it’s the too-intense tennis star forced to play doctor-prescribed pickleball. Jake Johnson, Mary Steenburgen, and Ed Harris lead this diverting little comedy sending up the real-life court wars between the sports. We’re just surprised it took this long to get a movie out of it.

➽ He may agree to pickleball, but whatever you do, don’t invite Jake Johnson to speak at graduation.

Having situated the Hills in modernity with last season’s revival, the animated sitcom jumps right back into the swing of things. Adult Bobby navigates his relationship with Connie and lands a spot on a reality cooking show, while Hank and Peggy continue to grapple with life as empty nesters … and maybe adopt a new dog

You may assume that there are no more new stories to tell about Pompeii. But that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be cool to have Tom Hiddleston describe what happened. Why does the guy who plays Loki, known for his ability to mess around with time travel, need to half-pretend he’s Loki while telling us about Pompeii? Maybe it’s just fun, okay?

“Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie is almost impossible to describe, but here’s an attempt: Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol play fictional versions of themselves who are aspiring musicians in a band called Nirvanna the Band (no relation to the obvious), who try, in vain, to book a show at Toronto’s Rivoli Theatre. The feeling of watching the movie is entirely disorienting and completely hilarious. It is as much like Caught by the Tides as it is Back to the Future.” —Fran Hoepfner, whointerviewed Johnson and McCarrolearlier this year

➽ Hulu’s got the TV series Nirvanna the Band the Show too. Also out: Wicked: For Good on Netflix. Disclosure Day, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, and Scary Movieare available on demand.

After Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, you may feel like there’s no more juice left to squeeze from Big Bang Theory spinoffs. Incredibly, the producers are going back to themic-book guy Stuart Bloom has to undo the apocalypse

➽ Honestly, reading Kathryn’s full review is a better use of your time than actually watching this one.
