Ranbir Kapoor reveals why Ramayana is extra special: ‘It’s Raha’s first film in theatres’

    24 July,2026 09:50 AM IST |  Mumbai  |  mid-day online correspondent

The much-awaited trailer of Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash’s Ramayana was supposed to be unveiled at Comic-Con. However, in the wake of the student protest, the makers postponed the trailer reveal hours before its release. As the cast and makers interacted with the press in San Diego, Ranbir Kapoor revealed that Ramayana will mark Raha’s first film on the big screen. He also admitted to having doubts about playing Lord Rama.

During a fan Q&A session, Ranbir also revealed one of the biggest reasons he is looking forward to the film’s release. According to The Times of India, a fan spoke about introducing children to Indian mythology through the film, prompting Ranbir to say, “I’m very excited to take my daughter to the film. It is going to be her first film on the big screen.”

Yash, who essays Ravana in the film, praised Ranbir for taking on one of Indian mythology’s most iconic characters.

On the sidelines of the event, the actor was asked about his feelings on playing Lord Rama on screen. To this, he said, “I remember when the film was first offered to me, there was so much fear, so much doubt. ‘Will I be able to do this? Am I capable enough?’ But I think that doubt changed into gratitude very early on. I think it was a blessing, an opportunity of a lifetime, and a moral responsibility. The Ramayana is ingrained in our subconscious. Lord Rama is the conscience keeper of millions of people around the world, across generations, for more than 4,000 years. He is somebody who embodies the triumph of the human spirit in times of adversity. He stands for courage, compassion, forgiveness, righteousness, and just to have the opportunity to represent that is very daunting.”

“Very early on, I understood that it just requires a lot of faith, a lot of belief, a lot of truthfulness, and noble intentions. Our entire cast and crew had one noble intention, and that is to tell the story as authentically as we can,” he added.

Talking about Ramayana, a special preview will be showcased at TIFF. The film will be released in two parts – Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027.
