Helping Families Navigate Video Games with Confidence

For many parents, video games are already part of everyday life. Children play video games to have fun, connect with friends, learn new things, and immerse themselves in virtual worlds that capture their imagination. In fact, research shows that nearly 60% of children want their parents more involved in their video gaming lives. Yet for many parents, understanding the world of video games and knowing how to engage confidently can be challenging.

To help address this gap, Tencent Games is proud to support Raising Good Gamers, a Games for Change program that provides families with research-backed insights and practical resources on video games. The program’s next phase was unveiled at this year’s Games for Change Festival in New York, alongside the release of the Games for Change white paper, Raising Good Gamers: What Families Need to Know About Video Games and Well-Being. Beginning in September, Raising Good Gamers will expand to include a broader range of tools, workshops, and webinars. These resources are designed to help parents and caregivers have more meaningful conversations with their children about video gaming and, in turn, build stronger connections.

With more than <a href="https://newzoo.com/resources/blog/global-games-market-to-hit-189-billion-in-2025″ rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>3 billion people playing video games globally, video gaming has become an important part of how people connect and express themselves across generations and cultures. Yet public conversations about video gaming often remain narrowly focused on screen time, overlooking important questions around the quality and context of play.

The Games for Change white paper examines what video games children play, who they play them with, why they play them, and how video gaming fits into family life. Understanding those factors can help move the discussion beyond simplistic assumptions and towards a more balanced view of wellbeing in the digital age.

As video games continue to play a role in many young people’s social and digital lives, supporting positive play requires ongoing dialogue among families, educators, communities, researchers, policymakers, and the wider video gaming ecosystem.

At Tencent Games, we believe healthy video gaming starts with understanding. The video games industry has a responsibility to provide parents with clear, practical guidance so they can feel informed and confident about the video games their children enjoy.

Our focus is on turning evidence into action. Research can foster stronger conversations between parents and children, shape the development of family-focused retry to increase support for parents and caregivers

    Shared Responsibility, Positive Play

Creating healthy video gaming experiences is a shared responsibility. Families, educators, researchers, community organizations, NGOs, and the video games industry all have a role to play in nurturing wellbeing and positive digital habits.

We believe meaningful progress happens when many voices come together around a shared goal. This belief sits at the heart of Tencent Games’ work. Through our partnership with Games for Change, Tencent Games supports Raising Good Gamers, helping broaden understanding, facilitate shared learning, and create a more informed and balanced conversation about video games and wellbeing. The program gives parents and caregivers clearer information to help them navigate video gaming at home with greater confidence.

As the video gaming ecosystem continues to evolve, Tencent Games remains committed to supporting partnerships, research, and industry collaboration that can deepen understanding of healthy and balanced video gaming. Whether through convening discussions and seminars, supporting evidence-based initiatives, or helping scale resources for families, our goal is to contribute to an environment where parents feel more informed, young people can enjoy the benefits of play, and the wider industry can work together to promote positive video gaming experiences.
