Speaking in a promotional video alongside Bhagavanth Kesari director Anil Ravipudi, Narayana said the makers had hoped the political drama would receive a U/A certificate. He stated, “Our film promotes girl child empowerment and encourages positive social change. We were disappointed that it was changed from a U/A to an A certificate, as it is meant to inspire and make young people think. We hoped families could watch it together, so the message would reach more people, but we respect the Censor Board’s decision.”
Assuring that the film will be a memorable experience for Vijay’s fans, he said, “We meet many people in life, but only a few leave a lasting impression. Vijay sir is one of those rare personalities. We are planning to release it on around 7,000 to 8,000 screens worldwide. It has been designed as a tribute to Vijay sir’s remarkable journey in cinema.”
The Central Board of Film Certification finally gave the film a green signal after months of delay, passing it with an A certificate. The Indian version of Jana Nayagan has been censored with some components modified, while the film’s uncut version will be released in the UK. In addition to the changes, Vijay’s name in the title slate of Jana Nayagan has been changed to The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C. Joseph Vijay.
About Jana Nayagan
After a seven-month delay, Jana Nayagan will release in theatres worldwide on July 23, 2026. The film faced several hurdles before its release. In April, the film’s HD version was leaked online, and a freelance editor working on the film was arrested along with several others. Before this, the film faced a delay in CBFC clearance and fought a legal battle at the Madras High Court.
Jana Nayagan marks Vijay’s final film before he transitions into full-time politics. Directed by H. Vinoth, the political drama also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Narain.
