If you’ve been reading Absolute Batman, you know the Court of Owls have been lurking in the background. Like their DC Universe counterparts, the Absolute version of the Court of Owls appear to have more power over the city than they’re letting on, as well as their fair share of secrets. Plus, there’s their mysterious connection to Batman’s mother, Martha Wayne
You probably have a lot of questions, and Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder says we’ll be getting answers soon
“Martha comes back in the next couple of issues in a really big way, and she’ll explain the Court of Owls and what happened with them,” Scott Snyder says during an appearance on AIPT Comics Podcast. “They have their own history with Scarecrow. And a lot of what she went through that broke them apart was what Bruce is going through. When people convince you, when they isolate you, and they weaponize your own anger, sadness, and isolation, it’s so easy to fall into in this kind of world we live in.”
Snyder co-created the Court of Owls during his 2011 Batman run, and he’s looking for ways to reinvent the mysterious organization for the Absolute Universe. The writer promises that the Court will play a big role in the title going forward
“Very, very important. I don’t want to spoil things, but they’re important. Essentially, Martha had a bad experience with them, where they are not willing to help because of what happened in the past. But their resurgence is a big part of the story coming forward, and who helps make them come back and be a part of the story is a surprise.”
Absolute Batman is available monthly from DC Comics
