Ryan Cooglerwho is best known for directing and starring in brilliant films Michael B. Jordan (Fruitville Station, creed, black panther 1 and 2), is continuing his winning streak with an upcoming mysterious period vampire movie, which he’s keeping under wraps. Photos from the spring shoot have surfaced, giving us our first look at Jordan and the set, confirming that the story is set in the 1930s.
Now, new rumors have surfaced claiming to reveal the film’s title and its preliminary details. According to reliable industry exclusive reports Daniel Richman (via CBM), the film is titled sinner. He also gave fans the first synopsis, which seemed to confirm that previous rumors that star Jordan would play the twin brothers were accurate. It reads:
In order to get out of trouble, the twin brothers (Jordan) returned to their hometown to start over, only to find that a greater evil was waiting for them to return.
When the project was first announced, it was said to be so top secret that “executives and buyers were forced to make pilgrimages to the Beverly Hills offices of WME, which represents Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan, in order to see the script,” But some details have leaked.
The film was initially described as a “genre film” with “period elements to the story,” but we later learned that it was actually set in the Jim Crow-era South, possibly involving vampires and Southern paranormal traditions. This definitely has a Lovecraftian vibe to it, which I love.
Hailee Steinfeld (eagle eye, Dickinson) recently signed on for an undisclosed role, joining the previously announced cast Fumi Mosaku, Delroy Lindo and Jack O’Connell.
Mosaku is said to be playing Jordan’s love interest (which twin remains to be seen), while O’Connell is said to be playing a “racist antagonist.”
Coogler also wrote the script and serves as lead producer along with Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian.
Coogler is also currently working on Marvel TV projects Eye of Wakandawhich will eventually become the third black panther Movie. I look forward to seeing this movie and every other project he comes up with.
