Polycast Labs is putting its new game Bobo and the Chest of Nightmares on Nintendo Switch, the developer has announced. It will release on October 30, 2026
Bobo and the Chest of Nightmares is a 90s-inspired platformer collectathon. After opening the legendary Nightmare Chest and accidentally freeing The Dream Master, you’ll need to recover EchoMares to restore laughter to a world trapped in eternal twilight
Here’s a ton of additional details:
What is Bobo and the Chest of Nightmares? At its heart, Bobo and the Chest of Nightmares is a love letter to the era when character mascots ruled the gaming landscape: blending light combat, acrobatic exploration, and rewarding secret-hunting within a twisted, Tim Burton-inspired carnival of dreams. To see the twilight realm in action, you can now watch the latest official gameplay trailer, which marks the exciting announcement of the game’s upcoming release on consoles here
Players step into the shoes of Bobo, a jester originally created to entertain and spread joy. During a routine circus performance, our clumsy protagonist accidentally opens the legendary Nightmare Chest and frees the DreamMaster, an ancient entity that transforms the realms into living, ghoulish terrors. Now trapped in eternal twilight, Bobo must rely on his fluid acrobatics and the guidance of the floating DreamMask to recover lost “EchoMares” to defeat corrupted spirits, and restore laughter to a fractured kingdom.
Rather than relying on brute warrior strength, Bobo survives through sheer mobility and mischief, making the Nintendo Switch the absolute perfect home for players looking to dive into semi-open, collectible-rich worlds whether on the big screen or on the go
Key Features:
- Chain together double-jumps, wall-slides, and umbrella glides to effortlessly navigate treacherous, highly vertical gothic realms from the very beginning of the adventure.
- Put your wits to the test! Manipulate the environment, decipher intricate mechanisms, and unlock hidden paths reminiscent of classic 3D adventure games.
- Dive into the secrets of the Twilight Circus hub. Scavenge for Twilight Shards, rescue upgrade-driven Nightmare Wisps, and hunt down rare Voodoo Dolls tucked away in every corner.
- Select your next challenge from the central hub and tackle realms in any order. Discover multiple routes and creative solutions designed to reward every playstyle and platforming skill level!
- Face spectacular, larger-than-life foes at the end of each world. Stack floating DreamMasks for visual health protection and unleash the invulnerable “Dreamburst” state to conquer your fears!
Developed entirely by a single person over the course of only one year, Bobo and the Chest of Nightmares represents a monumental achievement for independent game development. According to the DeVuego database, the leading tracker for Iberian video game productions, Bobo is officially recognized as the first-ever 3D Platformer Collectathon produced and commercially released in Portugal
David Ho, founder and solo developer at Polycast Labs, said of the news: “I didn’t just want to make a game; I wanted to resurrect a feeling you thought you lost on an old memory card back in 1999. Bringing Bobo to the Nintendo Switch is a dream come true and feels like the natural home for a 3D collectathon, allowing players to hunt for secrets and escape the Dreammaster anywhere they go.”
