Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday first look is all the talk of the internet, but everyone’s missing my favorite bit: Mystique’s comic-accurate costume change

It feels strange to think that this December, there will be an Avengers movie hitting theaters around the world – the same day that Dune: Part Three opens. It’ll be a battle between two megalomaniacs, and you’ll have to decide which you’ll put your money down first for: Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom or Robert Pattinson’s Scytale?

But now, you can get your first look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doom, at least in the form of concept art, courtesy of former Director of Visual Development of Marvel Studios, Andy Park. Park posted the art on Twitter with the caption, “AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY – the final full film I had the honor of leading as Director of Visual Development at Marvel Studios. This illustration commemorates that journey & reveals the characters & their looks for the first time.” Take a look at it below.

We’d like to call your attention to the X-Men in the lower part of the image. Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique is sporting a different hairstyle than the slicked-back look that she had in the original Fox X-Men films. And it also looks like Mystique has her skull headpiece visible on her forehead, marking the first time that she’s sported her classic comic book look on the big screen.

How will the X-Men come together with the Fantastic Four and the New Avengers team? We’ll have to see when the film gets released on December 18, 2026.
