Among Batman villains, the Penguin isn’t necessarily the most dangerous or powerful opponent the Dark Knight has ever faced. But Oswald “Ozzy” Cobblepot should never be underestimated, as his intelligence and ruthless personality took him far in the underworld. In the latest promo for HBO’s The Penguin, Oz is ready to declare himself the new king of Gotham City.
Colin Farrell will reprise his role in “The Batman,” but in this series, Oswald’s last name has been shortened to Cobb. The show takes place about a week after the release of the movie, which resulted in the death of Carmine Falcone and the underworld being thrown into chaos. This provides Ozzy with the perfect opportunity to fill the power vacuum left by his late boss.
Of course, some of the other criminals in town won’t simply accept Oz’s ascension to the throne. His greatest rival, however, may be Carmine’s daughter Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti), an unhinged woman hell-bent on claiming her father’s crown. In this trailer, Sofia reveals herself to Oz as an ally, but it’s unlikely that this alliance will last long.
Rob Pattinson’s Batman won’t appear in the show, but it will star Clancy Brown as gangster Salvatore Maroni, Michael Kelly as Johnny Vitti, Deirdre Leigh O’Connell stars as Frances Cobb, Michael Zegen stars as Alberto Falcone, and Renzi Feliz stars as Johnny Vitti. Aguilar, a teenager who becomes Oz’s driver and closest friend.
“Penguins” will premiere on HBO and Max on September 19.
