AMD Ryzen 7 8700G vs. 7800X3D: Integrated Graphics Gaming Performance

Modern Integrated Graphics Deliver Surprisingly Capable Gaming Performance Without Requiring an Expensive Dedicated Graphics Card.

Building a gaming PC without a dedicated graphics card might sound limiting, but modern processors with integrated graphics can offer surprisingly capable gaming performance. As graphics cards get more expensive, using a CPU’s built-in GPU can be a practical temporary solution for budget-conscious PC builders.

The AMD Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 7 7800X3D represent two very different levels of integrated graphics performance, especially in 1080p gaming.

Integrated Graphics Performance: Ryzen 7 8700G

The AMD Ryzen 7 8700G is an APU and one of the most powerful desktop processors for gaming without a discrete GPU, thanks to its Radeon 780M integrated graphics. It has eight cores, 16 threads, a 4.2GHz base frequency, 8MB of L2 cache, 16MB of L3 cache, and a 65W TDP.

For testing, we used 32GB of Corsair DDR5 Memory, running @ 6000MHz in dual-channel. This matters because integrated graphics use system RAM for visual memory, so memory speed and bandwidth are critical. With AMD EXPO enabled, the system scored 34,183 in Geekbench’s GPU benchmark and 3,128 in 3DMark. In tests, the Radeon 780M could play numerous <a href="https://comicvibe.com/3-ps2-and-ps1-games-now-available-for-free-for-some-ps5-users/” title=”3 PS2 and PS1 Games Now Available for Free for Some PS5 Users”>games without a dedicated graphics card.

    Gaming Benchmarks: Ryzen 7 8700G

Forza Horizon 5 averaged 89 fps at 1080p on medium settings. Even on Ultra, we saw 51.3 fps, while occasional slowdowns dropped 1% lows to 21.1 fps. Cyberpunk 2077 was more demanding, averaging 43.2 fps at 1080p on low settings. AMD resolution scaling enhanced performance to 55.4 fps. Meanwhile, Grand Theft Auto V averaged 45.8 fps on Ultra settings, while Shadow of the Tomb Raider managed 37.4 fps on its maximum option.

Resident Evil 3 averaged 58.5 fps on high settings, while Counter-Strike 2 did extremely well, averaging 173.3fps on low settings. But occasional stuttering hurt its frame-time regularity.

Does Faster RAM Boost Gaming Performance?

We also swapped the 6000MHz RAM for 6400MHz DDR5 to see what effect this had on gaming. Forza Horizon 5 barely gained anything, but Cyberpunk 2077 increased by 4.8 fps, or almost 10%. Shadow of the Tomb Raider and GTA V also saw minor updates.

This shows that faster memory can benefit integrated graphics, though the degree of improvement varies by game and memory setup.

Integrated Graphics Performance Ryzen 7 7800X3D

The Ryzen 7 7800X3D, however, is designed for gaming with a dedicated graphics card. The built-in Radeon Graphics are mainly meant for basic display output and troubleshooting.

The processor has eight cores, 16 threads, a 4.2GHz base clock, 8MB of L2 cache, and 96MB of L3 cache thanks to AMD 3D V-Cache technology. It likewise has a TDP of 120W. The processor managed only 6,352 on Geekbench’s GPU benchmark and 752 in 3DMark using 6400MHz DDR5 memory, a significant drop from the Ryzen 7 8700G.

    Ryzen 7 7800X3D Gaming Performance

At 1080p low settings, Forza Horizon 5 averaged 33.8 fps. Cyberpunk 2077 struggled, averaging 15.9 fps. Older games ran better. GTA V managed 43.8 fps on average, at standard settings. Shadow of the Tomb Raider only managed 21.6 fps on its lowest settings. Counter-Strike 2 ran decently at around 50 fps on low settings; however, Resident Evil 3 managed 28.1 fps after lowering its visual settings.

Can integrated graphics replace a dedicated GPU?

The Ryzen 7 8700G is obviously considerably more powerful for gaming and a solid alternative for budget gaming PCs without specialized graphics cards. The Radeon 780M can run many games at 1080p with respectable settings and frame rates.

The Ryzen 7 7800X3D may play older, less demanding titles, but its integrated graphics are not built for heavy gaming. All in all, integrated graphics can’t fully replace dedicated GPUs. Still, the Ryzen 7 8700G illustrates that you don’t always need to spend money on a premium graphics card to enjoy PC gaming.

    Q. Can you play games on the AMD Ryzen 7 8700G without a dedicated graphics card?

A.Yes. The Ryzen 7 8700G features Radeon 780M integrated graphics, which can run several games at 1080p with playable frame rates, depending on the graphics settings.

    Q. Is the Ryzen 7 7800X3D integrated graphics suitable for gaming?

A.The Ryzen 7 7800X3D has basic integrated Radeon Graphics designed primarily for display output and troubleshooting. It can run older, less demanding games but struggles with demanding titles.

    Q. Does faster RAM improve integrated graphics gaming performance?

A.Yes. Faster dual-channel DDR5 memory can improve integrated graphics performance because the GPU uses system RAM as video memory. However, performance gains vary by game.

    Q. Which processor is better for gaming without a dedicated graphics card?

A.The AMD Ryzen 7 8700G is significantly better because its Radeon 780M integrated graphics deliver considerably higher gaming performance than the basic integrated graphics found in the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
