The film is based on the hit manga by Hajime Komoto, which was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from January 2020 to July 2023. Set in a world where everyone can use magic and a person’s worth is determined by their magical abilities, the story follows Mash Burnedead, who cannot use magic at all but possesses extraordinary strength thanks to his daily workouts. To protect his adoptive father, Mash sets out to become a “Divine Visionary,” one of the most powerful magic users.
The series has gained popularity for its unconventional premise, in which Mash smashes through every established rule with his fists in a world ruled by magic. Its epic magical battles and the passionate friendships between Mash and his companions, who fight to protect their friends, have also captivated audiences. Beyond the manga, the franchise has expanded into anime, novels, stage productions, and video games.
The anime’s second season, which aired in 2024, reached No. 1 on numerous video streaming services in Japan, helped in part by the worldwide success of its theme song, Creepy Nuts’ “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born.” The anime series was also nominated for Best Fantasy and Best Comedy at the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, one of the world’s largest anime award ceremonies. A third anime season is scheduled to air in January 2027.
Warner Bros., known for producing globally celebrated blockbusters including its iconic wizarding-world films, will be responsible for the new movie. Meanwhile, production will be handled by CREDEUS, the Japanese production company behind major live-action projects such as Kingdom, SAKAMOTO DAYS, and Kokuho, which set the all-time box office record for a Japanese live-action film. CREDEUS has consistently delivered ambitious, high-quality productions while continuing to bring Japanese live-action filmmaking to audiences around the world.
The teaser visual shows a majestic silhouette standing in the darkness, illuminated by a dazzling light from behind. With the robes of a prestigious magic school fluttering around him, the figure looks almost like a savior destined to change the world. But on closer inspection, the object in his hand is not a wand. Is that a dumbbell? The battle of Mash Burnedead, a man who defies all conventions, begins here.
