AMD Adrenalin 26.10.2 Fixes Radeon RX 9000 & RX 7000 Crashes, but Issues Remain

AMD’s latest Adrenalin driver addresses persistent Radeon crashes while leaving several frustrating game compatibility problems unresolved.

AMD has released its latest optional Adrenalin Edition 26.10.2 graphics driver, delivering a substantial collection of stability improvements for Radeon RX 9000 and RX 7000 graphics cards. Released on October 30, the update fixes 10 previously reported issues, mostly related to sporadic driver timeouts, app failures, and abrupt shutdowns. The patches are excellent news for Radeon owners.

However, the accompanying list of outstanding issues makes it apparent that AMD still has substantial work ahead to ensure a consistently dependable software experience. This release offers some welcome respite for customers who have had unexpected crashes while gaming, switching applications, or watching videos.

But some annoying flaws remain, such as graphical corruption in recent games and crashes on multiple displays. The update reminds us that supplying competitive GPU hardware is only half the battle; the other half is dependable drivers across different games and Windows systems.

Adrenalin 26.10.2 addresses Ten Major Stability Problems

The biggest improvement in Adrenalin 26.10.2 is its focus on everyday stability rather than new game features. AMD fixed 10 issues affecting a variety of Radeon devices, including problems that could disrupt gaming sessions or cause apps to stop functioning abruptly.

One major fix addresses program crashes and driver timeouts that might happen when opening or closing overlays like Xbox Game Bar while AMD’s Performance Measurement Overlay is enabled. This is especially true for enthusiasts who frequently monitor GPU utilization, temps, and frame rates when gaming. Another nice improvement addresses intermittent crashes while loading the Steam client, a particularly annoying problem given how essential the platform is to PC gaming.

AMD has also patched up issues with Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS) that were causing problems for Radeon RX 7000-series graphics cards. Earlier, Windows 11 users might have seen driver timeouts when trying to play video content with HAGS turned on. Since video playback is such a common desktop activity, this problem stretched beyond gaming and made the driver experience excessively frustrating.

The update also handles sporadic system shutdowns in Valor Mortis on RX 7600-series GPUs, and driver timeouts affecting other RX 7000-series products. AMD has also addressed crashes and hangs when switching programs or changing overlays with in-game FSR Frame Generation enabled on RX 9000 graphics cards.

Death Stranding 2 & Final Fantasy Resonance Get Important Fixes

This update also includes game-specific changes. AMD has corrected occasional application hangs in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach when FSR is enabled on Radeon RX 9000-series GPUs. This was particularly problematic because FSR is meant to boost performance, but enabling it could cause system instability. AMD earlier suggested turning off FSR as a fix.

Also included is a fix for Final Fantasy Resonance, which would suffer sporadic system shutdowns on Ryzen AI MAX PRO 400 processors. Alongside these gaming fixes, AMD has resolved a Windows 10 issue that caused applications to fail on RX 9000 computers after removing Adrenalin Software using the AMD Cleanup Utility. AMD also fixed Install Manager for not finding optional drivers when Recommended and Optional is selected.

These changes suggest AMD is tackling issues across the broader graphics software ecosystem, not just frame rates.

Phantom Blade Zero and Cyberpunk 2077 Still Have Unresolved Issues

Unfortunately, the documented issues mean Adrenalin 26.10.2 isn’t an easy endorsement. Phantom Blade Zero is still experiencing visual corruption with sky textures and character hair on Radeon RX 9000 graphics cards. While AMD’s suggestion to turn off High-Quality Hair to circumvent the character rendering issue is hardly a perfect solution, it forces users to trade visual quality.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced still has periodic program crashes and driver timeouts on RX 7000 series GPUs. These are especially disappointing difficulties for users who expect a new driver release to fix previously reported compatibility issues.

Perhaps more worrying is the ongoing Cyberpunk 2077 multiscreen issue. Some RX 9000 systems can crash while playing the game and watching a video on a secondary display with FSR Upscaling, Radeon Anti-Lag, and in-game Frame Generation all active. AMD recommends disabling Frame Generation in-game as a fix.

This constraint is especially annoying for enthusiasts who often multitask across multiple monitors. The modern gaming PC should be able to play video in the background and handle powerful graphical features at the same time, without compromising system stability.
