Donald Glover will direct, write, executive produce and star in a PUBG live-action series in development at Netflix, adapting Krafton’s 2017 battle royale with his brother Stephen Glover also on board as a writer and executive producer.

Deadline first reported the project and said it came together following lengthy negotiations. Netflix has not announced a release window, production start date, episode count or any further cast members.

Who Is Making Netflix’s PUBG Series

The show reunites the brothers behind FX’s Atlanta, which Donald created and starred in while Stephen wrote and executive produced across all four seasons. Donald won two Emmys for Atlanta, one for acting and one for directing, and is also a two-time Golden Globe winner best known outside that show for Community. The pair have since worked together on Amazon’s Swarm and the musical film Guava Island, and Stephen wrote for Donald’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith series at Amazon.

PUBG won’t be Donald Glover’s first brush with a game property, either. He voices Yoshi in the animated Super Mario Galaxy film.

Four more executive producers round out the team:

LV3H is Krafton’s entertainment content subsidiary, which means the company that owns PUBG has two of its own producers on the series and a direct hand in how the game is translated to the screen.

What Is the PUBG Series About?

Nobody has said yet. Variety reported that plot details are being kept under wraps, and the game itself offers little to work from. PUBG launched in 2017 as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and has set seven Guinness World Records, but it has no story. Each match drops players onto one of several maps, where they scavenge weapons, vehicles and gear and fight until one is left standing.

That puts more weight on the Glovers than most game adaptations put on their writers. Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed and Gears of War projects start from established characters and decades of lore, while a PUBG series starts from a premise, so nearly everything viewers meet on screen will have to be invented by the writers’ room.

Netflix’s Growing Slate of Video Game Adaptations

The PUBG series joins a long list of game projects at Netflix. A live-action Assassin’s Creed series and a live-action Gears of War film are in the works, alongside a Crazy Taxi film and animated series based on Minecraft, Clash of Clans and Diablo, the last of those coming from a recent partnership with Blizzard Entertainment.

The streamer already carries adaptations of Castlevania, Tomb Raider, Sonic the Hedgehog and Cyberpunk 2077, the last through Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, as well as Splinter Cell: Deathwatch.

PUBG’s Earlier Film and TV Plans

Krafton first announced plans for PUBG films and TV series in 2020, with LV3H handling development and production of entertainment projects under the franchise. A year later, Castlevania executive producer Adi Shankar announced an animated PUBG series, which was previously in development at Netflix. The Glover project is therefore the second PUBG series to be developed at the streamer, five years after the first was announced.

Earlier in 2026, Krafton laid out plans to grow PUBG into a broader content platform, with a move into media content among the areas it named.
