AMD FSR 4.1 Supports Older GPUs as RTX 6060 Faces Delay

AMD expands FSR 4.1 support to older Radeon GPUs as NVIDIA RTX 6060 faces a possible delay until 2029.

The GPU market is shifting as AMD expands FSR 4.1 support to older Radeon cards, Nvidia’s next budget GPU may be delayed, and AI infrastructure spending raises questions about future hardware prices. These developments could affect how gamers upgrade their systems, the performance available from existing GPUs, and graphics card prices in the coming years.

AMD is expanding FSR 4.1 to its Radeon RX 6000 series, down to the budget RX 6400, with a new Adrenalin driver. Some of these cards are years old, so what exactly is FSR? FidelityFX Super Resolution renders a game at a lower resolution and then reconstructs it for your screen. That reduces the GPU workload while aiming to preserve image quality.

AMD Expands FSR 4.1 Support to Older Radeon GPUs

FSR 4.1 uses machine learning to deliver sharper details and more stable motion. AMD says it retrained and optimized the model for older Radeon architectures, but you shouldn’t expect your FPS to double. The model also costs processing power. The real benefit may be better visuals at faster upscaling settings, depending on your game and GPU.

AMD claims that at 1440p, FSR 4.1 in performance mode can look better than FSR 3.1 in quality mode on certain hardware. That is a company claim, not proof that every game will look better. When comparing settings, we should watch for ghosting, flickering foliage, and the clarity of moving objects. Selected Ryzen APUs, including Strix Halo and Gorgon Halo, are also included.

For lower-power chips, AMD says it created a model less than half the size of its original INT8 version. That smaller model matters for integrated graphics, where power and memory are limited. Selected handhelds are on the roadmap, including ROG Xbox Ally devices. Unlike ordinary desktop drivers, handheld graphics updates may need to come from the device manufacturer.

If you use a supported handheld, you may need to wait for its manufacturer to provide the appropriate update. AMD also plans support for the Xbox Series X and Series S, Vulkan compatibility, and frame generation improvements, but some releases still have no confirmed date. The second development could affect budget gamers. Leaker Kepler claims Nvidia’s RTX 6060 could be delayed until 2029.

AI Infrastructure Spending Raises Questions About GPU Prices

Here is where everything connects. Bank of America has warned about the scale of AI infrastructure investment. One estimate suggests major cloud companies could spend close to $1 trillion over 12 months on data centers and computing capacity. Does that mean AI is about to crash? Not necessarily. Remember the dot-com boom?

The internet transformed the world, but it didn’t prevent a bubble. Useful technology can still be overfunded. AI usage is rising, but model prices are falling as competition and efficiency improve. That is good for customers, but will the revenue justify all these data centers? Reports describe data centers being delayed or blocked as infrastructure struggles to keep up.

Thed this year, while a Bernstein estimate questions the credibility of much of the proposed US data center pipeline. Those figures are estimates and reported project statuses, not evidence that AI demand has vanished. We should distinguish between delays caused by infrastructure constraints and a genuine decline in demand for AI computing

If AI investment cools, demand for chips and memory might ease.

That could lower GPU prices, depending on how manufacturers respond. Yet, cheaper GPUs are not guaranteed. Manufacturers could cut production, limiting supply and preventing prices from dropping. The relationship between AI investment and gaming hardware is not straightforward. If demand for AI accelerators continues to consume production capacity, gaming GPUs could face continued supply pressure.

If investment slows and manufacturing capacity becomes more available, the market could move in the other direction. For gamers, the outcome will depend on chip production, memory costs, manufacturer decisions, and demand across both AI and consumer hardware. We cannot assume that an AI spending slowdown will automatically make graphics cards more affordable.

If your Radeon card still plays your games, test the FSR update before buying anything. You may improve image quality or performance in supported games without replacing your graphics card. If you need a new GPU, compare actual benchmarks and prices, not 2029 rumors. We should also consider the games we play, the resolutions we use, and whether upscaling can provide the performance we need from our existing hardware.
