This LEGO set lets you create a near full-size version of Nintendo’s first-ever handheld, the original Game Boy. This 421-piece set replicates the iconic handheld with all of its details, including the +Control Pad, A and B buttons, and SELECT and START buttons. Like the original Game Boy, these buttons are functional, so you can press them on your new handheld console. This set also includes brick-built versions of the Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening game packs, plus swappable lenticular screens that bring the classic scenes to life.
The LEGO Super Mario Game Boy has dropped to $50 on Amazon, down from its usual $60. You’re keeping $10 in your pocket; that’s 17% off.
A near full-size brick-built Game Boy with swappable screens
This LEGO Game Boy is designed for adult builders and longtime Nintendo fans who want a nostalgic display piece on their desk or shelf. This package includes a nearly 1:1 scale model of the Game Boy, two brick-built Game Paks, three swappable lenticular screens that bring classic scenes to life, and one build-your-own display stand. When completed, the LEGO Game Boy measures over 5.5 inches high, 3.5 inches wide, and 1 inch deep.
As for authentic details, there are many. Beyond the buttons, you get contrast adjustment and volume dials, the Game Pak slot, printed labels that replicate the look and feel of the original handheld console, a battery cover on the back for viewing from every angle, and more!
Once built, both brick-built Game Paks fit snugly into the Game Pak slot, just like the original Game Boy cartridges. As an added feature, each brick-built Game Pak includes a matching lenticular screen. When you insert either brick-built Game Pak into the slot, the screen displays a scene from either Super Mario Land or Link’s Awakening. What makes this really cool is that the displays appear to “move” as you adjust your viewing angle! Another lenticular screen replicates the classic Nintendo start screen.
With the ability to swap out screens and cartridges, you can change what you display whenever you want! Show off Super Mario Land one week and then Link’s Awakening the next, or display a cartridge right next to the Game Boy console on the included stand. The stand lets you display the Game Boy at a slight angle, making it visible from across the room and clearly showing off the screen and buttons.
Building this set is a very satisfying project for experienced LEGO fans. Step-by-step instructions make it achievable even if you’re brand-new to LEGO sets. Building this set is a great way to relax and enjoy some quality time in the evening while creating something truly unique for your game room, office, or entertainment center.
The LEGO Super Mario Game Boy brings back, in brick form, one of gaming’s most beloved handheld consoles with clever detail work and swappable screens that celebrate classic Nintendo games. This makes a great gift for the Nintendo fan in your life, or yourself. If you grew up playing a Game Boy, this nostalgic build is hard to pass up.
