Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has sent a strong message to those behind the firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff, calling them “cowards” and promising that the Mumbai Police will track them down soon. The statement comes after the shooting in Mumbai’s Juhu area left the actor shaken and his driver injured.
Speaking at a press conference in Nagpur on Monday morning, Fadnavis said there was no reason for people to panic. He also confirmed that he had spoken to Tiger and assured him that the state would provide adequate security.
‘These are the actions of cowards’: Fadnavis
Fadnavis said the police were treating every threat seriously and would take action against those responsible. He also defended the Mumbai Police, saying the force had a record of pursuing criminals until they were caught.
“There is absolutely no reason to be afraid. These are the actions of cowards, yes, I repeat, cowards. They hide away somewhere and use communication channels to issue threats. However, we take every single threat seriously and take appropriate action,” the chief minister said.
He added that the police would not stop until the accused were arrested.
“I want to assure you that the Mumbai Police is a professional force. Time and again, the Mumbai Police has demonstrated that they will not rest until such criminals are apprehended. Mumbai Police will find the culprits and arrest them soon,” he said.
Fadnavis also said he had personally spoken to Tiger after the incident. He assured the actor that adequate security arrangements would be made and urged him not to worry.
Tiger Shroff escapes gunfire in Juhu
The shooting took place at around 7 pm on Sunday, when unidentified individuals allegedly opened fire as Tiger was leaving a football club in his car.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg, the actor narrowly escaped injury during the attack. Two people, including Tiger’s driver, sustained injuries in the incident. The driver was reportedly hit by bullets, while Tiger did not suffer any gunshot injuries.
Eknath Shinde visits actor, assures family of support
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Tiger’s residence on Sunday night to enquire about his health and assure him of the government’s support.
Photographs from the meeting showed Tiger with dressings on his shoulder and chest and a bandage on his right arm. His mother, Ayesha Shroff, was also present.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the actor, Shinde said Tiger had suffered injuries to his left hand from “gunpowder and shards of glass”. He added that both the actor and his mother were shaken by the incident.
Shinde said five rounds had been fired during the attack, but Tiger had escaped serious injury.
“This is a major incident… five rounds were fired, but fortunately, he was safe. His driver sustained injuries, and the incident is condemnable,” he said.
State government warns against threats to public figures
Shinde assured Tiger and his family that the government would take the necessary steps to protect them. He also said threats and attempts to intimidate public figures would not be tolerated.
Recalling the gang violence that Mumbai witnessed in the 1990s, the deputy chief minister said the Mumbai Police had brought such activities under control in 1995.
“Such gang wars were quite common in the 90s, but the Mumbai Police put an end to them in 1995,” Shinde said.
He added that the government would act against those attempting to spread fear through violence.
“These attempts to intimidate people will not be tolerated, and we will put an end to this hooliganism,” he said.
