As of October 2026, Capcom has put Resident Evil 2 Cloud , Resident Evil 3 Cloud , and the Resident Evil 4 remake on Nintendo Switch in cloud form. Nintendo still hasn’t announced a Nintendo Switch 2, and Capcom hasn’t said a word about native versions for any system like that.

On the current Switch, the setup is the same streaming model Capcom has used before. Resident Evil 2 Cloud, Resident Evil 3 Cloud, and the Resident Evil 4 remake are running on remote servers, not on the console itself, which sets them apart from the 2005 Resident Evil 4 port. That’s how newer RE Engine games ended up on Nintendo hardware. The catch is obvious once you start playing: you need a fast, steady connection, and even then you can run into input lag, softer visuals, compression artefacts, or the occasional disconnect.
So if native performance and snappy controls matter to you, these cloud releases only make sense if you’re willing to live with those compromises. Capcom took the same route with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village. Older entries , or games that ask less from the hardware, still have a better shot at showing up as proper native ports.
You can play these newer Resident Evil remakes on the current Nintendo Switch, but only as cloud editions. If you want native versions, those are still on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
