5 TV Shows To Watch If You Like Interview With The Vampire

AMC’s “Interview with the Vampire” has become one of the most distinctive shows on television. It oozes style, boasts titanic, almost operatic performances, and even became a full-on musical (sort of) in its most recent season. It’s a masterclass in high genre and cataclysmic emotional stakes.

There’s nothing else quite like it, especially after Season 3, which AMC retitled “The Vampire Lestat.” But there are a number of great shows that capture at least part of the same vibe to tide fans over while we wait for “Interview with the Vampire” Season 4, “Queen of the Damned.”

Some of our recommendations are other vampire series, as the genre has thrived on television over the last few decades. But we also wanted to highlight shows that share the same tonal focus. “Interview with the Vampire” is a romance, a gothic drama, and many other things. But it’s also a character study, first focused on Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson), and then on Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid). It’s a story about messy, ugly, complicated relationships, deeply drawn characters, and mysteries of the self. With all that in mind, here are five shows to watch next if you love “Interview with the Vampire.”

    Castlevania

There are plenty of vampire shows that could have opened this list. “True Blood,” “Legacies,” the list goes on and on. But while those might be closer to “Interview with the Vampire” in format, as live-action series with more focus on drama than action, many embrace a soapy quality that doesn’t quite mesh. “Castlevania,” though animated and more action-packed, is truer to the AMC series’ focus on grand gothic drama, where the epic story is directly tethered to the characters’ emotional lives.

In this case, Dracula himself is the emotional heart of the early story. He’s grown so old and tired of the world that he’s removed himself from humanity almost completely. But his marriage to a human woman, Lisa (Emily Swallow), helps restore his faith in humanity. That glimpse at a happier future vanishes early in the show when the Church burns Lisa at the stake after accusing her of witchcraft, prompting Dracula to declare war on humanity with an army of monsters.

The primary story, based on the Konami video games, follows a band of heroes determined to stop ol’ Vlad. But what elevates “Castlevania” is the way it spends just as much time on the supposed villains, diving deep into vampire politics, philosophies of death and morality, and the grotesque ramifications of immortality. If you loved the queer vampirism of “Interview with the Vampire,” or its focus on how love can twist you, you’ll find a lot to like in “Castlevania.” And beyond all that, it’s simply one of the best vampire TV shows ever made.

    House of the Dragon

“House of the Dragon” and “Interview with the Vampire” premiered just months apart back in 2022, and they’ve followed similar trajectories, often even airing new seasons in tandem. And while the former is better known for its epic scale, there are a lot of similarities between the two.

Some “Game of Thrones” fans have criticized the HBO prequel for its slower pace, but we’d argue that’s more a matter of taste than an actual flaw. And if “Interview with the Vampire” drew you in with its slower burn and greater focus on the inner lives of its characters, you will find a similar precision here. In many ways, “House of the Dragon” is even better than “Game of Thrones.”

Yes, the dragon battles are gorgeous, and there’s plenty of political backstabbing to keep you on your toes. But more so than “Thrones,” “House of the Dragon” is a fantasy show about what happens when powerful people’s personal relationships spin wildly out of control. There are very few innocent parties here, as is the case in “Interview with the Vampire,” and both shows share a love of dramatic camera work and fraught one-on-one character scenes.

The fantasy subgenres may not really line up — medieval high fantasy vs. vampire period piece (with the period occasionally being right now) — but the energy is often more similar than you’d think. At the end of the day, these are two shows defined by their leading performances, all of which are more than worth the time.

    Ripley

Stepping away from the vampire and fantasy genres for a moment, we have “Ripley,” the 2024 Netflix limited series based on Patricia Highsmith’s “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and starring the outstanding Andrew Scott in the eponymous role. This is a noir, shot in black and white with impeccable attention to detail. If you thought “House of the Dragon” was a slow burn, you might want to skip this one, but if a deep character study of a complicated, at times unsettling character is what you’re looking for, you won’t find a better option after “Interview with the Vampire.”

If you haven’t read the novel or seen the Matt Damon/Jude Law film adaptation, don’t worry: this is a great way to experience the story for the first time. In this version, Tom Ripley is a small-time con man living in New York who is approached by a private investigator working for wealthy Herbert Greenleaf (Kenneth Lonergan). Herbert believes Tom is a friend of his son, Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn), who’s living off his trust fund in Italy, and offers to pay Tom to bring him home. What follows is an ever-thickening web of deception, jealousy, desire, resentment, and crime, as Tom learns to navigate a new world of wealth and luxury.

We’ll stop there before giving too much away. But suffice it to say, if you enjoy “Interview with the Vampire” for its tone as much as its overt genre, this is a great next watch.

What We Do in the Shadows

All of these shows are so dang serious. Let’s do a silly one, yeah? “What We Do in the Shadows” is, simultaneously, one of the funniest sitcoms of the modern era and one of the smartest vampire shows ever made. And if you’ve watched (or read) “Interview with the Vampire,” you’ll pick up some pretty specific references and spoofs here and there.

Set on the ancestral vampire homeland of Staten Island, the FX series — based on the 2014 mockumentary film by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi — follows a group of bloodsuckers grappling with roommate issues, old flames, modern technology, and the watchful eye of the vampire ruling establishment. It’s a show that’s as clever as it is playful and goofy, lifted to tremendous heights by the comedic chemistry between leading stars Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillén, and Mark Proksch.

If you’ve been plowing full-bore through the major vampire TV dramas, this is a great palate cleanser that still treats the genre with respect and reverence. Viewers are rewarded for knowing the ins and outs of other vampire stories, but anybody can appreciate the comedic brilliance on display.

    Dark Winds

If you already have access to AMC or AMC+, which seems likely for fans of “Interview with the Vampire,” we thought it appropriate to pull our final recommendation from that same catalog. This time, though, we’re stepping outside the so-called “Immortal Universe” with the Western detective drama and psychological thriller “Dark Winds.”

Set in the Navajo Nation in the 1970s, the series adapts Tony Hillerman’s “Leaphorn & Chee” novels, with season-long cases that will be a familiar format to anyone who’s watched shows like “True Detective” or “The Killing.” But the show is just as much about its time and place as any particular murder or mystery, with the core cast of Tribal police officers getting plenty of development along the way. “Dark Winds” was renewed for a fifth season at AMC in February 2026, so it’s still going strong, making now a great time to jump onboard.

In addition to its darker tone and richly drawn characters, this is a great pick for “Interview with the Vampire” fans because of the way the story interfaces with the supernatural — sparingly, often in ways that make you wonder if what you’re seeing is real or imagined by the characters. Both shows share an interest in complicated characters and unsettling mysteries, making “Dark Winds” a compelling next watch.
