Every Star Wars movie and TV show confirmed for 2027 (in release order)

Ahsoka season 2 | Lucasfilm Ltd.

While the Star Wars franchise has been incredibly active over the last decade, especially with its string of Disney+ TV shows, 2027 offers a much more focused affair. Rather than just a general feeling of throwing a bunch of projects out there and seeing what takes, everything that’s dropping in cinemas and on streaming next year looks carefully curated to draw in Star Wars fans both old and new.

Of course, Star Wars has announced plans for projects beyond 2027, but most lack any real detail at the moment, have fallen into development hell, or both. Plus, the franchise extends far beyond the TV shows and movies. In the list below, I’m ignoring ancillary media like novels, video games, and comics. Even with such strict criteria, 2027 looks like a whole lot of fun.

    Ahsoka season 2: Jan. 20, 2027

It’s already been a little over three years since Ahsoka season 1’s finale dropped in October 2023. Thankfully, there isn’t much longer to wait until the next run of episodes arrives. The premiere is slated for release on Jan 20. If season 1 is anything to go by, season 2 will likely release the first two episodes at once to form a double-episode premiere. This, however, has not been confirmed.

Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as the show’s title character. Lars Mikkelsen will also be returning as Grand Admiral Thrawn, along with a whole host of other characters who originated in Star Wars Rebels and made their live-action debuts in 2023. Don’t forget that Hayden Christensen’s comeback tour as Anakin also isn’t over yet.

Perhaps most poignantly, the passing of Ray Stevens means Game of Thrones‘ Rory McCann (The Hound) will be stepping into the role of Baylan Skoll. Season 2 is expected to match season 1’s eight-episode tally.

Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope 50th anniversary theatrical re-release: Feb. 19, 2027

Sci-fiand cinema changed forever in 1977 when A New Hope premiered. 50 years later, it’s coming back to theaters. Even more excitingly, it’s going to be screened in IMAX and IMAX 70MM for the first time, where the cinemas’ setup allows. If that wasn’t enough, this version restores the movie to its original theatrical edit.

Changes such as the one to the Han and Greedo scene, as well as other alterations and CGI “upgrades” that have been added over the decades, will be absent. The movie will enjoy a worldwide rollout but will only be screened for a limited time. With these original edits becoming ever more tricky to locate, this is a chance you won’t want to miss.

Star Wars: Starfighter: May 28, 2027

With the underwhelming return to the big screen for Star Wars that was The Mandalorian and Grogu earlier this year, you’d be forgiven if you were concerned about Star Wars: Starfighter. I certainly am. I also have hope, though — and isn’t that what Star Wars is all about? Hope, and laser swords. Starfighter will deliver both, with none other than Tom Cruise helping behind the scenes with the latter…yes, really.

Details about the movie’s plot have been kept firmly under wraps. All we really know is that it’ll take place five years after 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.Conversely, it’s not expected to be part of the Skywalker Saga, but will instead be a standalone story with a knockout cast.

Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling (Project Hail Mary) will lead the line on-screen. Other supporting cast members include Matt Smith (Doctor Who,House of the Dragon), Mia Goth (Pearl), Aaron Pierre (Lanterns), Daniel Ings (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), and Oscar nominee Amy Adams (Arrival). Meanwhile, Deadpool & Wolverine‘s Shawn Levy will be in the director’s chair. It already sounds better than The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord season 2: Release date TBA

Shadow Lord season 2 was confirmed before season 1 even premiered earlier this year. With Dave Filoni now serving as the president at Lucasfilm, and Shadow Lord being a project very close to his heart, this speedy decision is no real surprise.

The preemptive renewal turned out to be the right move. I loved season 1, and I’ve seen very little negative said about it online. Star Wars: Shadow Lord season 1 has a critic score of 98% and an audience score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. In the internet era, especially when talking about Star Wars, that is an incredibly rare scenario.

All that’s been confirmed regarding its return is that season 2 will drop in 2027. A more exact release date hasn’t been announced yet, but I would expect it to land roughly around the time of Starfighter. It would be logical if the animated series arrived a little after Starfighter so that the Star Wars 2027 release slate is a little more even across the whole year — if I had to guess, then summer or fall makes the most sense to me.

Disney+ is the streaming homeof Star Wars. Catch up on Ahsoka and Shadow Lord ahead of 2027.
