Okay, folks. We are just days away from the Street Fighter movie. And the marketing is ramping up again.
On social media, the Street Fighter Movie account has been showing a bunch of crazy crossover art, like Transformers and Spongebob. Now, Street Fighter is in a real-life crossover with Roblox.
A partnership between Capcom and Novaly Studios is bringing Street Fighter into Roblox for four weeks. Just head to “Untitled Boxing Game.” For those who aren’t familiar with Roblox – like me – this is a one-on-one PvP inspired by anime. It’s super popular in the Roblox world, with over 1.4 billion visits since it arrived in 2023.
Back on October 9, Ryu became a playable character in Untitled Boxing Game. On October 16, a second, still-secret Street Fighter character will also be added. And devs took this weirdly seriously.
Street Fighter in Roblox isn’t just child’s play
Novaly Studios Co-Founder Shon Viver called the collaboration a “dream” while speaking with <a href="https://gamesbeat.com/capcom-taps-roblox-hit-untitled-boxing-game-for-street-fighter-crossover-exclusive/” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>GamesBeat. This is because Street Fighter was apparently one of the biggest inspirations for Untitled Boxing Game. The collaboration had been discussed on and off for years.
Shon and his brother Max were allowed to pick the characters they felt were the best fit for Untitled Boxing Game. They set to work. Every team member was given a copy of Street Fighter 6 and told to figure out the best way to adapt its characters into Untitled Boxing Game.
Shon himself spent time shadowboxing around his apartment, emulating moves from Street Fighter to ensure movements felt fluid.
The Viver brothers wanted the Street Fighter characters to feel completely balanced and authentic inside of Untitled Boxing Game. It has largely paid off, with gamers noting that it feels balanced and fun. However, some players have questioned why there are long-range moves like Hadouken in a boxing game. “We lost the plot,” one frustrated gamer said on Reddit.
I truly wasn’t aware that the Untitled Boxing Game gaming scene was so serious. But they are actually really invested. And many of them want it to be, well, boxing. It’s in the title.
Well, it’s still pretty cool to see Street Fighter become part of the mainstream gaming scene as the movie premiere gets closer. If the movie ends up being any good, we may see a lot of new players.
