Last week, LA Comic Con announced that they would be partnering with StubHub for digital ticket distribution and resale. StubHub also revealed that as part of the announcement, ticket purchasers will also receive a free comic courtesy of Neon Ichiban. This partnership comes after a tense summer for StubHub after issues related to World Cup ticket sales spark a class action lawsuit
Through this new partnership, potential attendees for LACC have the option to purchase resellable tickets for the con on the StubHub website. According to the press release, while StubHub is partnering with the convention, “Through Open Distribution, StubHub serves as a marketplace engine for L.A. Comic Con while the convention retains full ownership of its ticketing operations and pricing. StubHub adds reach, marketing support, and buyer experience on top of the systems LACC already runs.” The LACC homepage still links to the Leap Events website and tickets are still purchasable there. Interestingly, there are some price discrepancies between the two ticketing platforms. Friday-Only tickets on StubHub have two separate “General Admissions” options, one at $57 and one at $111. The $57 option (and all StubHub LACC tickets) includes a free copy of Neon Ichiban’s mystery digital comic. The $57 option has a price breakdown of $42 for the ticket and $15 for fees. The $111 option makes no mention of the free digital download code and has a price breakdown of $84 for the ticket and $27 in fees. There are no explanations for the difference in price for these two General Admission options, these may be tickets priced by individual resellers but there is no indicator stating so.
The 3 other ticket options through StubHub are Saturday ($78), Sunday ($66), and a 3-Day pass ($124). These options all also have unexplained more expensive options as well. Through the Leap Events page, prices for LACC tickets are as follows, Friday ($49), Saturday ($69), Sunday ($59), and the 3-Day pass ($119). Included in these prices is a $2 service fee. While the StubHub tickets are on average higher, they do allow attendees the option to resell the tickets if need be.
The StubHub tickets also come with a digital download code usable on the Neon Ichiban platform. From the press release, “A ticket gets you into the show. We wanted it to get you into a story, too,” said David Steinberger, co-founder and CEO, Neon Ichiban. “With L.A. Comic Con and StubHub, every fan walks in with a first issue by Scott Snyder already in their collection, and a chance to meet the writer who made it. That’s what Neon Ichiban is built for: connecting great comics with the people who love them.” The free digital comic is none other than Absolute Batman#1 and purchasers will be emailed instructions to download with their receipt.
Tickets are available now on either Leap Events or StubHub. LACC takes place October 30th through November 1st at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
