A WINSFORD-based online pop culture retailer closed after it collapsed into administration for the second time in its short history.
ZavviGroup Ltd, or Zavvi, announced Chris Skey and Kerry Bailey of BDO LLP were appointed as the joint administrators this week.
As a nationwide online pop culture retailer it was home to officially licensed clothing items, collectable items and other merchandise for major brands like DC Comics, Marvel Comics and Star Wars.
Avengers Towers, its industrial estate HQ, was its home for around three years after a breakaway buyout by the management team from Manchester Airport-headquartered The Hut Group (THG).
From 2007 to 2009 it was a bricks-and-mortar business but it closed and collapsed into administration on the latter date and it has been online-only ever since the acquisition of the assets by THG.
Almost all 70 of its staff members are set for redundancy straight away although a small number of its staff members are staying on in the short term for the wind-down of the warehouse operation.
Mr Skey said there is support for those staff who do not get statutory redundancy payments to go to the Redundancy Payments Service.
Mr Skey said: “Despite the best efforts of the management team it was not possible to find a buyer for the business as a going concern.”
According to the Zavvi website it is not able to process any orders, pre-orders or returns, including those already paid for by customers.
There may be an opportunity for them to recover their cash Credit Act
A statement on the website said: “Customers should contact their bank, card issuer or payment provider promptly.”
