There’s a new mysterious limited series burning up the Netflix Top 10 that everyone will be talking about this fall. Just in time for Halloween, the streaming service delivers some much-needed spooks courtesy of the thriller Below, which centers on a small coastal town being terrorized by a massive sea creature with origins that date back decades into the town’s history.

Josh Hartnett leads the cast of the Newfoundland-set thriller, leaning further into his latest film roles that have been firmly planted in the thriller genre: Trap, Fight or Flight, andVerity. While you could dive right into Hartnett’s extensive filmography after binge-watching Below, you might have the taste for another limited series with as many chilling moments and suspenseful questions.

Thankfully, Netflix boasts plenty of series with the same kind of gripping entertainment value as Below. From another creature feature with a winding mystery to unravel to a supernatural horror series all the way to a teen adventure drama, we’re sharing three Netflix shows similar to Below that make for an epic, high-octane marathon when you’re finished with the nautical nightmare!

    The Boroughs

As much as we would love to recommended Stranger Things as a post-Below recommendation, it’s a little on the nose and it’s unlikely that anyone who checked out Hartnett’s thriller hasn’t also watched the Netflix phenomenon. But it’s possible that some views might have missed The Boroughs.

From executive producers the Duffer Brothers, the creators of Stranger Things, the supernatural mystery series takes place in a remote retirement community. When a newcomer arrives and becomes aware of odd happenings, he takes it upon himself to figure out what and/or who is behind the disappearances of guests. You’ll hooked and guessing from start to finish.

Below and The Boroughs might not look the same at face value, but on paper, they are so similar. As a matter of fact, both of their central empathetic adversaries are called Mother! How’s that for kindred spirits? If you want and even more chilling mystery, check out the Duffers’ fellow 2026 limited series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, which has even more horror and twists.

HAMISH LINKLATER as FATHER PAUL in episode 101 of MIDNIGHT MASS

    Midnight Mass

One of the best things about Belowis its concise storytelling. The limited series features only six episodes that are each around 37-47 minutes in length, making for a quick binge you can knock out in a single evening. If you’re looking for another quick watch, here’s another great pick.

Mike Flanagan’s horror limited series Midnight Mass contains seven episodes that are all about one hour in length, so a little longer than Below but still comparatively concise. But you won’t mind the extra time spent with the story because it’s that captivating, especially for this time of year.

The supernatural miniseries takes place on Crockett Island, a community known for its Catholic beliefs, but when strange and supernatural events begin to rock the community after an odd new priest takes over, there’s suddenly a chilling mystery to unravel.

Outer Banks. Madison Bailey as Kiara in episode 510 of Outer Banks

    Outer Banks

Considering the other selections on the list list of recommendations are more closely aligned with Below in the sense that there’s some sort of sci-fi or supernatural connection, Outer Banks is a real “hear me out!” But best believe, it’s a wild card that works.

Like Stranger Things, there’s a good chance that a majority of those who are checking out have already watched Outer Banks. In the even that you haven’t, it’s a teen adventure series about a group of fearless, scrappy kids hunting down treasure in their coastal hometown (and beyond). Like Below, there’s social commentary on class and plenty of villainous characters looking to exert their power.

Both shows share a similar tone, sense of humor, and writing style. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think they were from the same creator. What Outer Banks lacks in giant sea creatures, it makes up for in genuine suspense, a lot of which is of the nautical variety like in Below. Unlike the other two shows, this isn’t a limited series. There’s 50 episodes available to stream for a good, long binge.
