Rajinikanth says he wanted Tamannaah Bhatia’s song in Jailer 2 but director Nelson denied

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, helmed by Nelson, is all set to hit the screens on October 15, 2026. Sequel to the 2023 hit, the film is undoubtedly one of the most-awaited Tamil films of the year. Recently, during the promotions of the film, Rajinikanth opened up about what’s missing in the sequel, sharing that he told Nelson to have a song of Tamannaah Bhatia in the film just like its predecessor.

Rajinikanth said, “The only missing element in Jailer 2 is Tamannaah. I told Nelson to keep one song for Tamannaah.” Nelson responded to Rajinikanth, saying, “I can’t keep it just because you like it, sir.” To this, Rajinikanth quickly said, “I didn’t say I like it. If I had done whatever I liked, I would have become irrelevant and gone to Bengaluru. I’m still in the field because I’m doing what audiences are loving.”
The superstar suggested that he wanted Tamannaah’s song in Jailer 2 as well because the audience loves it. Jailer was released in 2023, and had a cameo song by Tamannaah Bhatia in it. Her song Kaavaalaabecame a chartbuster upon release. The hook step of the song had also become a rage on social media with Tamannaah’s dance moves grabbing everyone’s attention.

Rajinikanth returns as the lead in Jailer 2, along with Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik, who will be seen reprise their roles from the first instalment. The upcoming sequel will also see the addition of several actors to its cast, including S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vidya Balan, Anna Rajan and Jatin Sarna.
Helmed by Nelson, Jailer 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on October 15, 2026, coinciding with the festive window of Dussehra 2026. The film is clearly among the most-awaited Tamil releases of the year. Fans are keen to see if the sequel can recreate the magic of the original. A few days ago, the film was cleared by the CBFC with a U/A certificateahead of release. Meanwhile, its certified runtime is 165 minutes and 18 seconds, which makes the film approximately two hours and 45 minutes long.
