    What you need to know

Anbernic’s RG DDS is a flagship dual-screen handheld powered by the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, with custom IPS displays that scale <a href="https://comicvibe.com/the-best-and-worst-nintendo-music-of-all-time/” title=”The best and worst Nintendo music of all time”>Nintendo 3DS games in clean 3×3 pixel blocks. It also includes active cooling, a 6,000mAh battery and a retractable stylus; pricing, release date, RAM, storage and operating system remain unconfirmed.

Anbernic has unveiled the RG DDS, its new flagship dual-screen handheld that takes clear inspiration from the Nintendo 3DS. The device follows the company’s RG DS and RG DS Plus, sitting above both as its most capable clamshell yet. The new handheld runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 chipset and features a pair of custom IPS displays designed specifically for 3DS emulation.

The elephant in the room is the obvious Nintendo 3DS inspiration behind the screen setup. The top display measures 4.7 inches with a 1200×720 resolution, while the bottom touchscreen is 4 inches at 960×720. Both panels offer 500 nits of peak brightness and approximately 300 PPI.

But this goes beyond simply copying the 3DS layout. The top screen matches a perfect 3x integer scale of the 3DS’s original 400×240-per-eye image, while the bottom screen does the same for its 320×240 touchscreen. That means 3DS games can scale eachpscaling, exactly what emulation enthusiasts want from a device like this

Under the hood, the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 is the same chipset found in the Retroid Pocket G2, putting it a step above the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the AYN Thor. Active cooling, a 6,000mAh battery, dual full-sized analogue sticks, front-firing stereo speakers, a Z-axis linear vibration motor for haptic feedback, and a built-in retractable stylus round out the hardware. It also has a dedicated AI button, but Anbernic hasn’t shed much light on how it will be used beyond confirming its existence.

How does RG DDS handle touchscreen and stylus controls in Nintendo 3DS games?

The RG DDS has a 4-inch bottom touchscreen and a built-in retractable stylus for touch input. Its 960×720 bottom display scales the Nintendo 3DS’s 320×240 touchscreen image by exactly 3x, so eachame-specific touchscreen or stylus behavior

What battery life can the RG DDS deliver during dual-screen 3DS emulation?

How does the RG DDS’s active cooling affect temperatures and sustained gaming performance?

The RG DDS has active cooling, but no temperature measurements or sustained gaming tests are reported. Its effect on temperatures and performance during long gaming sessions is therefore unknown.

How does the RG DDS compare with the Retroid Pocket Duo for dual-screen gaming?

The RG DDS is designed for 3DS gaming, with two IPS displays that scale each original screen’s pixels into clean 3×3 blocks. It targets a similar audience to the Retroid Pocket Duo, but there are no Duo screen details or gaming results here to support a direct comparison.

The RG DDS will launch in black, blue, and white. Pricing and a release date have not been announced, though the hardware positioning suggests something in the region of $200. That would put it below the Retroid Pocket Duo while targeting a similar audience. RAM, storage options, and the operating system also remain unconfirmed for now.
