<a href="https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/tag/sony-interactive-entertainment” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a surprise PS5 UI update that we frankly didn’t see coming. The company will soon add a dedicated hub to the console’s home screen for its anime streaming service Crunchyroll.
PS5 UI update that will add dedicated Crunchyroll hub gets release date window
The PS5 Crunchyroll update will be rolled out sometime around Spring 2027. In a press release, Sony said that it wants to meet fans “where they already are.”
“Anime and gaming have deeply engaged and overlapping fan communities, and the new experience will bring those worlds closer together on PlayStation 5,” the press release reads. “Whether longtime anime fans or discovering a series through a game, character, or world they already love, players will have a dedicated place to discover anime and anime-inspired games and easily access the full Crunchyroll app.”
Sony acquired Crunchyroll in 2020.
While anime and gaming do go hand in hand, it’s a little surprising to get this dedicated hub before the UI overhaul that many were expecting earlier this year.
For those who missed it, Sony rolled out a UI update to select users in April 2026 without any formal announcement. The update redesigned the home screen and streamlined things.
The following month, Sony quietly revoked the UI changes, leaving players confused. There’s been no development on that front ever since.
