Pro Sharna Burgess reveals that there there was a “gasp” backstage.
Ciara Miller and Brandon Armstrong’s elimination during Mariah Carey Night was “shocking” for the Dancing With the Starscast.
Sharna Burgess tells Entertainment Weeklythat she “did not think” it was going to be the Summer House star on the chopping block this week. “You should have heard us all backstage. The gasp that we gasped.”
Burgess adds: “It’s just sad to see anyone go. We don’t want it to be us, but we don’t want it to be anyone. We genuinely support and love each other back here and we want everyone to do well and we root for everyone, so you don’t want anyone to go home. But I did not think it was going to be them.”

Miller and Armstrong performed first during Tuesday’s live show, receiving a score of 21 out of 30 for their jazz routine to Carey’s “Emotions.”
Burgess tells EW that it’s been two weeks in a row of surprise goodbyes before offering some insight into what the eliminations are actually like. Taylor Hanson and Britt Stewart were cut last week.
“You never know what way it’s going to go,” Burgess continues. “You can never tell, it’s all very overwhelming. We’re all just up there hoping that it’s not us, and then when you hear it’s someone that you don’t expect, it’s hard to take it. We’ll miss her.”
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum Tatyana Ali tells EW that she was “just getting to know” Miller, so it’s “hard” to see her leave the competition. The actress also praised Miller and Armstrong for their “best dance” this week, noting that she “felt a kind of way” saying goodbye.
Ali’s pro partner Jan Ravnik “loved” seeing Miller and Armstrong together. He tells EW of their elimination, “I didn’t expect that.”
Fellow DWTS proRylee Arnold tells EW that she’s “really sad” about the elimination. “I love them,” she adds, calling Miller and Armstrong “so positive” and “amazing to be around” on set. Arnold previously hoped this would be the season that viewers saw Armstrong secure his first win.
“I’ve known Brandon my whole life. I really wanted Brandon to have a Mirrorball, really bad,” she continues. “In my heart, I wanted that so bad, so I really just am sad.”
Arnold’s celebrity partner, influencer Connor Wood, tells EW that he “connected a lot” with Miller throughout her DWTSjourney — especially as they helped each other overcome some “performance anxiety” prior to taking the dance floor.

Wood explains that Armstrong also helped him a lot with form. “It sucks to see who I think of as a teammate go home,” the social media star says. “It’s a bummer. You forget its a competition so easy because we’re like a family here. It’s a rude awakening every week.”
Dancing With the Stars airs live on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+.
