The Room series, developed by Fireproof games, was originally released for smartphones but soon enough made its way over to <a href="https://comicvibe.com/nintendo-maintenance-schedule-october-4-2026/” title=”Nintendo maintenance schedule – October 4, 2026″>Nintendo Switch. While dark in atmosphere, they are puzzle games that do not require quick thinking and action, but rather the patience to observe and solve puzzles. This year, The Room 4: Old Sins finally also released for Nintendo Switch.
In The Room Four, players are exploring puzzles in a doll house, diving in and out of different rooms and making connections between them to reach their goal. The puzzles are well designed and make sense for the most part, only here and there were a couple of trickier deductions to stumble over. Differently to the previous entry in the series, The Room Four only offers one possible ending, and it is well worth playing to the end to find out what happened! The storytelling in this title is extremely well done, and is mostly done via diary entries the player will find throughout gameplay. Being a fairly linear playthrough, these entries are also in order making it easier to understand the events that occurred.
Using either the Joy-Cons’ motion controls or by using the touchscreen in handheld mode, players can dive right into the fairly short tutorial and gameplay. Using the touchscreen works well enough, unless one is a bit impatient, in which case it can become a bit fiddly. Of course, using the touchscreen does require the player to hold on to the console with the other hand, and this can become tiresome after a while. The puzzles are very addictive, and work well with the story. They are, for the most part, very logical, but by no means easy and straightforward. The graphics are really well done, with a realistic, yet dark and foreboding art-style. There are no cutscenes as such, but the way this game plays feels very fluid and natural. There is only very little voiced in this title; the atmosphere is mostly coloured by sound effects and the odd mysterious musical tune.
Cubed3 Rating
The Room Four: Old Sins on Nintendo Switch has a great story, fantastic puzzles and really cool setting. Diving in and out of the dollhouse to solve puzzles in each room and uncovering the truth behind everything provides a great adventure for puzzle lovers.
