An AI-generated video involving Janhvi Kapoor and Jr NTR has sparked fresh concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence after footage from their popular Devara: Part 1 song Chuttamalle was digitally manipulated into sexually explicit content. Jr NTR has now condemned the clip and warned that legal action will be taken against both those who created it and those circulating it online.
Jr NTR calls out on AI misuse
Reacting to the video on X on October 3, Jr NTR called it “disgusting, sick and shameless” and criticised the use of AI to digitally alter a woman’s appearance in a degrading manner. He also urged people not to watch, share or engage with the video, warning that such misuse of technology can affect anyone. “I will take every possible legal action against those who created it and those who are spreading it,” the actor said in his post. NTR further called on state governments and the Centre to introducestronger safeguards against harmful AI-generated content.
Janhvi Kapoor also threatens legal action
Janhvi Kapoor has also spoken out against the manipulated video. According to Moneycontrol, the actor described the circulation of AI-generated fake videos as disturbing and urged people not to create, share or promote such material. She said legal action would be taken against those involved. The controversy has also drawn support from other actors. Vijay Deverakonda backed NTR’s statement and called for serious consequences for those responsible. The News Minute reported that Deverakonda described such manipulation as the “digital equivalent of sexual assault”.
The song behind the controversy
Chuttamalle was released as part of Devara: Part 1 in 2024 and featured NTR and Janhvi Kapoor. The romantic track was composed by Anirudh Ravichander, sung by Shilpa Rao and choreographed by Bosco Martis. The original song became widely popular across languages, with versions released in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. The new controversy, however, has little to do with the original creative work and instead highlights how easily existing entertainment footage can be repurposed using AI.
The incident comes as Indian celebrities increasingly face unauthorised AI-generated material using their faces, voices and identities. Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently secured interim protection from the Bombay High Court against deepfakes and other unauthorised content using her name, image and voice.
For NTR and Kapoor, the immediate message has been clear: do not amplify the manipulated material. As generative AI becomes increasingly sophisticated, the Chuttamalle controversy adds another warning about the consequences of using the technology to fabricate intimate or degrading content. The legal response now promised by the actors could also add to the growing debate over how effectively existing protections can address AI-generated abuse.
