IKEA Partners with Xbox to Launch Gaming Furniture Line

The “YXSTABY” gaming furniture collection, co-created by IKEA and Xbox, launched on October 1. The thumbstick stool, developed using original 3D CAD files from the Xbox Wireless Controller, is drawing particular attention.

The collection was first revealed at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany, on August 26. The lineup includes a lounge chair, a monitor stand, a TV stand on castors, a side table, a storage laptop support, a D-pad cushion, a stainless steel tray, a mirrored display box, and a thumbstick stool. Each product was designed by a paired team consisting of one designer from IKEA and one from Xbox. Xbox contributed its 25 years of understanding how people play, while IKEA brought over 80 years of life-at-home expertise. The teams also conducted home visits to study households where gaming is a part of daily life.

A recurring starting point for the designs was the controller. The D-pad inspired both a cushion and a sleek stainless steel tray, while the mirrored display box showcases controllers from all angles while also displaying figurines and collectibles.

The most experimental product is the thumbstick stool. It was developed based on original 3D CAD files of the controller provided by an Xbox device designer. The stick’s grip texture, originally designed to keep thumbs from slipping, was repurposed to hold the person sitting on it, while its rounded base tilts with body movement just like an actual thumbstick. Xbox Design Director Elliot Hsu noted that the challenge was not to build a giant thumbstick, but rather to create a great stool that still carries the feel of a thumbstick.

The remaining products focus heavily on practical utility. The TV stand on castors—IKEA’s first TV stand with wheels—comes in black and white and features rear storage space. It allows users to move consoles, controllers, and cables into another room all at once. The side table also features castors, offering controller storage and charging space, while the lounge chair includes hidden pockets under the seat to tuck controllers away. Throughout the collection, there are also hidden symbols, puzzles, and Easter eggs referencing Xbox game characters.

IKEA product developer Philip Dile stated that with the belief that “gaming deserves a space as thoughtful and comfortable as any other daily activity,” IKEA and Xbox reinterpreted familiar forms into playful, practical items. Carl Ledbetter, head of device design at Xbox, added that by translating elements like the D-pad and thumbstick into functional furniture, they enabled Xbox design to blend naturally into everyday living spaces.

Sales began on October 1 in regions including the UK and Canada, though IKEA noted that availability may vary by region. In the United States, in-store sales began on October 1, with online availability set for November 30. However, release plans and pricing for South Korea have not yet been confirmed.
