The Dragon Ball franchise is officially heading back to Netflix with Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, a swiftly rebuilt and visually upgraded remake of the Dragon Ball Super series. With brand-new weekly episodes dropping beginning October 17, 2026, here is everything you need to know about the anime before it premieres.
It’s official: Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will stream weekly in the US beginning October 17, 2026. New episodes of the anime will arrive just six days after their initial Japanese broadcast and Crunchyroll simulcast, which kicks off on October 11. What is the plot of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus?
Even casual Dragon Ball fans likely know this is our fourth go-around with Lord Beerus, the God of Destruction. Beerus first appeared on screen in 2013’s Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, breaking an 18-year cinematic drought following 1995’s Wrath of the Dragon. After years of surviving video games and a beloved YouTube parody, fans were desperate for new material. Battle of Gods delivered, kicking off a massive Dragon Ball renaissance.

The second instance was the release of the Dragon Ball Super series in 2015, which began with adaptations of the Battle of Gods and Resurrection ‘F’ films. However, the animation at this time was largely (and rightfully) criticized for its poor quality.

The third instance was the Dragon Ball Super manga, which began with the Battle of Gods arc.

For the sake of first-timers, here’s the official synopsis for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus:
Relive the epic beginning of Dragon Ball Super with brand-new animation and a stunningly enhanced visual experience. Set just a few years after the fierce battle with Majin Buu, a terrifying new threat awakens from a decades-long slumber: Lord Beerus, the God of Destruction. Prompted by a prophetic dream about a legendary warrior known as the Super Saiyan God, Beerus and his angelic attendant, Whis, scour the universe in search of the remaining Saiyans. Their search leads them directly to Earth, home to Son Goku and Prince Vegeta. Desperate to test this fabled power, Beerus threatens to obliterate the planet if his challenge goes unanswered. Now, Goku and his friends must push beyond their mortal limits, uniting to unlock a divine new transformation before their world is erased from existence.
The story won’t just stop at the Battle of Gods arc; we’ll also get to see brand new animation for the Resurrection of F arc and the Universe 6 arc.
