GTA VI’s November launch could spark a rush of GTA-style games on Roblox

The prior chapter in the <a href="https://comicvibe.com/sony-developing-series-based-on-spider/” title=”Sony developing series based on Spider”>series has moved more than 230 million units, and the new release is expected to reset sales records. Publisher Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. is rolling out the game without its highly awaited online component at first.
The sheer gravitational pull of GTA VI has already led some rival developers to rejigger their own release timing. It has been more than a decade since the last mainline GTA, which is a big reason hype is so high this time.
How Roblox fits into the picture
Roblox’s community includes many players under 17, and they build and play user-made games for free. That has long included spin-offs inspired by major hits like Pokémon, and one of Roblox’s staple genres for years has been open-world driving and cops-and-robbers role-play that echoes Grand Theft Auto.
“GTA VI is going to inspire a wave of homebrew spin-offs on Roblox,” said Joost van Dreunen, a veteran analyst and lecturer in video game economics and business at NYU’s Stern School of Business. “The players who aren’t old enough to buy it will simply build it themselves.” Nick McKay of Freedom Capital Markets said some investors worry GTA VI could further cut time spent on Roblox, but noted the game’s mature rating could limit younger players’ access and potentially produce the opposite outcome.
Evidence of momentum on Roblox
Roblox is drawing 123 million users daily, and GTA-flavored experiences like Brookhaven, Jailbreak, Da Hood, and Wanted have collectively racked up more than 100 billion plays. At any given moment, these experiences have over 500 million people behind the wheel or staging robberies. Type “Grand Theft Auto” into Roblox’s search and you get about half a dozen results, with names that mimic the brand such as Grand Treat Auto 5 and THE GTA 6. One such game has players steal enough cash to buy a gun and then a car to set up convenience store and bank robberies.
“Roblox is a spectacular ecosystem that responds to what’s happening in the global gaming culture – even if it doesn’t originate on Roblox,” said Matt Edelman, CEO of Super League Enterprise Inc. Although Roblox creations may not match the visual polish or depth of their inspirations, they are free to play and available to users under 17, who make up most of Roblox’s audience.

The company view and recent headwinds
Roblox CEO Dave Baszucki said in a Sept. 14 Bloomberg TV interview that GTA VI could prompt more people to both create and play on Roblox. “We’re going to see more and more content not just for younger players but for older players on the platform too,” he said.
Roblox has recently seen time spent decline after introducing safety measures to protect young players from predators. In July, the company projected third-quarter bookings could fall by as much as 18% due to changes including age-verification tools. The stock is down nearly 50% this year.
McKay expects creators to try to ride the GTA VI spotlight: “You’ll start to see content that attempts to look like GTA VI on Roblox to capitalize on the hype.” More could appear after Nov. 19, especially since GTA VI’s online mode will not be live at launch. Requests for comment went unanswered by both Roblox and Rockstar Games.
